A paucity of instructions

UglyBagOfMostlyWater

I originally started with two stars but after some instruction hunting over the internet, I have a little better understanding of how the Nanoleaf system works. This app is buggy, however. It was getting things out of sync when it came to the tutorial. I had to delete it and reinstall it to fix that problem. And the user experience of finding things leaves me frustrated, at the very least. I am a software developer. I feel I understand more about navigating app menus. But this one is confusing.

Nanoleaf Essentials Essentially Not Worth It

I’ve purchased over ten of these lights and CONSISTENTLY have had issues with setting them up or subsequently not responding to my device. Usually it takes resetting the bulbs multiple times to get them to respond again. In my latest attempt after finally getting the original three I purchased to operate, more than half of the bulbs will not firmware update using the developer’s own app. The only luck I’ve managed to have in setting them up is through HomeKit, but even then their responsiveness to my devices (even with hubs like Apple TV and HomePod mini) is unpredictable at best. I really wish that the developers of both the product and the app would address and fix these issues because they are really a great value for smart bulbs, but they could be so much better if they were reliable too.

Nanoleaf Just takes too much time off

My Canvas Nanoleaf panels lose connection so often I pretty much don’t even use the app

Buggy

Some support links went to 404 pages, my device seems to be bricked during an automatic firmware update I had no control over. The instructions don’t even tell you how to put your device in pairing mode during initial setup. These guys need to dedicate some time to tech debt and operational excellence, clearly the product leaders are pushing the tech teams too hard, these software developers need to unionize and refuse to make new releases until the basics are fixed.

Limited functionality

If you hold your mouth just right the system might work. No clue whether the system will work with your house till you get it home. As the Flight Controller said to the Pilots, “You all be careful.”

Love it

Would have done 5 stars but the app and web page can be really hard to navigate

Use to be so good. What happened?

Ive had my nanoleaf lights for some years now. I stopped using them for about 2 years and decided to get them back up. Holy cow alot has changed and its not for the better. When i first had these lights , easy 5 stars with no connection issues, smooth light transitions, and easily configurable and customizable. Fast forward to now, and these lights have been such a headache. Heres why : 1. CONNECTION ISSUES. I would say 2 out of the 7 days a week, these lights will respond to my phone. The other 5 days, its constant issues. Error messages about not being able to connect. Lights not responding. Connects then drops after 5 minutes . Having to manually configure the lights. Brightness not registering. On and off not registering . Just too much for lighting 2. CUSTOMIZATION. It is so difficult to navigate this app now. All i want to do is choose my color and brightness. But it is almost impossible to do. The customizations are also more limited. Before the update , it was so simple and easy to utilize all the features on this device. Now im not sure if theyve shortened their features or if i just cant find them. Overall too complicated 3. SMOOTHNESS. Back then, i could change the colors and brightness with great smooth response. Now when i adjust anything (from color to brightness) , it is almost like it glitches . The best way i can describe it is like a volume control. If the volume is controlled by a button, you click the button once and it goes up a level. You cant do a half click . Where as if the volume was controlled my a turning nob, you can a wider and more accurate range of volume noise. These light dont have that in between no more . Its like its all preset There are other little things that really made this app fo down in quality , so i hope someday they bring it back to how it use to be. Hope this helps !

Layout Assistant is a joke

T_L_G

I have warmed up to this app, and the light. YouTube tutorials, user manual, light configuration all in one place. It’s not super obvious how to go from one thing to the other, but I managed. I still wish the Layout Assistant made it practical to design your own layout using the app; but my layout is done.

Does Not Work

MaliceCowboy

Does not work with Alexa Does not work with Google Does not consistently work within the app itself. Does not consistently work with Siri Customer service never responded to my request for assistance via the app/email I regret the purchase of these lights

Has potential

DistuptiveD

Used to work excellently up until about the last iOS update. Turned on my lights when I got home and one bulb refused to connect properly to the app. Also, according to the website, you can make your own themes in the phone app but the button it says to click doesn’t exist for me
