Mobile Sequencer

Kerr-Ja

If only it could import XG midi files it would be perfect. At the moment it is just potential for greatness and a little tedious.

Very good start

I've been waiting for a real phrase editor like this. As I'd expect from Yamaha, it is professional-looking and does the job well. What would take it to the 5-star level for me is a way to transform the selected notes in the editor - for example, to reverse the note sequence (back to front), invert it (a major sixth becomes a minor third), etc.

Very good app

I like the structure of the interface (phrase/section/song). The functionality available to create new, expressive content is good. Navigating between the different views is simple and intuitive - especially for past users of Yamaha's QY series. The included MIDI content is good and tweakable, but not editable. That's a sore point for me - I could do event level edits on included MIDI patterns on my QY hardware. A lot of accompanying patterns I used on those hardware devices started as a part from the included MIDI content and I miss that here.

My new favorite iPad music app!

Dddddddddded

I've been playing with the Mobile Music Sequencer for about a day & so far, I love it! Until I read through the manual I found it a little confusing ... it could really use a comprehensive video tutorial to get people like me who hate reading manuals up a running quickly. But having read through the manual, I now find it to be the most useful song creation tool I have (and I have a lot of them) and my new favorite iPad music app. It gives me the ability to quickly build up the structure and backing tracks for a Song by creating and linking together "Sections" (similar to Motif Patterns). Each Section involves a specific chord progression and up to eight "Phrases". Each Phrase can be a different instrument (Part) chosen from a somewhat limited, but usable sample library. I don't mind the limitations of the library because I'm just using this app to sketch out ideas which I then export to either my DAW or my Motif XF and then map the parts to their huge selections of high quality samples & VST instruments. So far, where this app really shines for me is in how easy it is to choose (from a list or randomly) and fine tune the Phrases via altering the chords, re-mixing the rhythms, adding effects etc. and then instantly hearing the results. And I can do all this anywhere I can use my iPad .. .including my recliner! I pretty sure I've just scratched the surface of what I can do with this app and, to me, it is already worth many times the $10 (intro price til end of Feb) I paid for it. Thank you Yamaha!

Nice App!!

Very Nice App. The Sequencer is great. Hope to see Audiobus, Audio copy and past and a way to import your own samples. A nice Sampler would be great too. Add those it this can be a game changer. Sequencer has a Ableton Live feel to it. Very nice. Update: Well there is audiocopy. You have to mixdown your song or phrase then you can use the audiocopy to send to another app or you can upload to Soundcloud..Sweet!!

An App That Leaves Out The Good Sounds To Sell You

Taggart Transcontinental

It is an old strategy of these keyboard companies to put the cheese inside the keyboard and then offer you expansion sounds that really rock like "Hip Hop" or "Dance." It is no different with this lame app. I can see what it could be with a few revisions, but as of now, it is a toy that sells you the best sounds for money.

outstanding!

it's like an 8-track keyboard arranger that lets you create your own phrases/styles and chord progressions. you can tweak the sounds a little and mess with the effect sends (1 insert effect plus chorus and reverb), then use audio copy to send your mix to other apps or to soundcloud. if you don't like the sounds, you can save the midi as an smf file for your DAW to play instruments you already own. or connect your iPad to your hardware or software instruments -- yep, this app has MIDI in and out. a powerful and flexible songwriting partner for those of us who need to get good ideas down fast! it even randomly picks phrases and instruments to jump-start your creativity. and if you create a phrase that's missing a little something, the Loop Remix feature can help you juggle your phrase till it's slamming. i don't give 5-star reviews often, and i'm predisposed against the big boys. but major props to yamaha for delivering this must-have tool for songwriters and loop producers.

Good app BUT revised

Jaxziel

Please fix the copy paste ,it drives me nuts ,got to tap it just right or you can spend time trying to do a simple function. has a great potential to be Machine type app. Like it a lot and it's a great arm chair companion. Needs some better sound generation ,riffs with real musicians in mind. We are still playing blues and jazz just need some background help with this great new tool. I can fall on my keyboard and get some wobble or dub noise that's as good as the samples that claim to be music . Five stars if the sounds improve and you fix the tap to aggravate function. Ps just bought a mox6,total dope. Just spent 2 days on the app and must admit it improves with age. I really like this app I still would like the tap to copy improve but maybe it's my fat fingers. Ok five stars to a groove machine quality app

I am embarassed for Yamaha corp. (preliminary overview)

-MZK-

This is just an overview on my recent and very limited experience after having bought the Mobile Music Sequencer yesterday (according to their limited price offer till Feb 2013 --which apparently is stretched into March today). Basically, I do not have the time nor the proficient skills to identify myself amongst a league of musicians who spend a lot of time with such apps. However, I do have the inclination and luxury of having bought MANY top apps from the Music section from iTunes to enjoy my current use for them as a play-time hobby or exploration into Music. Such apps would include Nano Studio, Nlog Synth, Maschine and plethora of others. Which brings me to my point...This looks to be a VERY promising app & I am glad I bought it. But I have to be completely honest with Yamaha and YOU the potential buyer: The sample bank provided for the synth is amongst the worst qualities I have heard and I was frankly SHOCKED to see how poor the sounds were! The variety is good and there are plenty of decent formats of sounds that you can endeavor to play with (in terms of your desired compositions), and I'm sure you can tweak them to your heart's content BUT the disappointing thing about it all is that from the get-go they just do not sound rich and vibrant. The unaltered sound straight from the sample bank should NEVER sound overly synthesized. That is in my opinion the biggest TELL of cheap sounding samples that one would never use in a professional setting. People who have Nlog synth will KNOW what I'm talking about as a comparison to this app! Anyway, I do think the rest of the features are great and will update this review accordingly but as a warning, do not expect an awesome sounding bank of sounds or even significantly above average. Additionally, while the in App purchases on preview do sound decent for their purpose, I am afraid of spending 4 bucks more to realize it is more of the same and just a few good sounds thrown in. I sincerely hope Yamaha will lower the prices of packs and more importantly, STRONGLY consider how the sample bank provided reflects on their brand and position in the Music Industry.

Wasted moneys

Another 9.99 wasted. It's junk but it has pretty colors!
