Hello my first keyboard

ChrisE1G

This thing sounds really bad. Like a really cheap beginners keyboard from the 90s. Most phrases etc are locked behind IAPs. I really don't see who this is aimed at? If there are any redeeming thing about it it's that you can use the midi parts/phrases you make to run other apps or gear via the MIDI outs. But at 20 bucks plus 16 bucks to unlock the whole thing it's way overpriced (considering what else you can get on the AppStore for that money). Seriously Yamaha? It's like you lifted the sample ROM from a Soundblaster 32 card general midi bank...

Not midi import?

I want standard midi import..

Excellent

I am impressed with all the Apps. Great Job Yamaha. Very very Good.

I wish I had bought this sooner

MuzikAppJunkie

This has quickly become one of my new favorites. It has a interface reminiscent of Ableton, especially great for live improvisation. The ability to map any kit on to any pattern and then remix the loops to perfection is just absolutely wonderful when feeling creative but lazy (I'm sure most if not all musicians can relate to this). And if your work ethic happens to be strong, you can edit and create patterns on the piano roll (not my favorite way to sequence beats but I am not really too concerned with this, I have other apps that I use for that anyway). I would of course like the ability to a paste my own loops in but this is just not that kind of app, but if Yamaha ever makes a similarly styled app where you could work with your own samples I would not hesitate one second to get it. Especially with Yamaha's superior loop remix functionality. I have an old SU-200 sampler and the loop remix plus ribbon control makes it a relevant piece of my performance kit to this day. In most cases you can't go wrong with Yamaha (there is one app I hated but won't mention it's name due to my tremendous satisfaction with this one). Anyway... BUY IT, USE IT, LOVE IT.

Good start

Would love to have these features: * Chord audio detects from other sources than Music/Lib. Dropbox? Everyone have it! * Export analyzed chords as chord symbols for cheat-sheet, practice, band etc. would love to have it in MusicXML or some universal standards. Thanks!

Good Value for $16.00. Has some of the QY vibe, but not enough of it.

K2

I like this program. It definitely has the QY vibe. The hardware version of the QY does odd time signatures. If this did that, it would be worth 5 stars. But as I learn it, I am finding a niche for it. Good job at the moment. Keep updating!

Nice App but could be way better

Yaya23456

I got the app plus the QY and other packs and generated a song in about 30 minutes. So cool! Suggestions for improvement: make use of the widely available Yamaha PSR styles (great way to generate more revenues) and provide a similar app for the MAC and/or PC to sync and polish off. Also, the capability of recording voice or analog instruments would be a definite plus.

Powerful

The Organist

Yamaha's music sequencer is more inline with its hardware workstations. You may be a bit overwhelmed with all of the features, but in time they make sense. There are some pretty advanced features in this sequencer that I have not seen anywhere else. There's a chord analyzer that will listen to downloaded music in your library to tell you what chords are in your favorite sound. This is actually my second review of this app. Initially I wasn't impressed with the sounds and felt that the sounds could be better. This is an excellent music sketch pad that I'll use on the road when ideas pop in my head. There are features on this that I haven't explored yet. I think it can wireless connect to my Yamaha XF workstation. The structure of this app is great. It's a little overwhelming, but power users will appreciate it. The only gripe so far is the sound quality of the instruments. Sometimes a good sounding instrument will inspire song ideas. In short, great sequencer!

Steps away from perfection

j3v15

This is a great app for lightning fast music production and on the fly section jumps without missing a beat when performing live and the only reason i use it over BeatMaker, Garage band and music studio etc.. I have the whole suite of recording software. What would make this 5 stars is to add sampling software and/or audio copy, as well as add more than 8 tracks.

Sequencer

Phrasesequence

Nice easy to use app for sketching music ideas, but in my opinion lacks these important features: 1. lots of poor sounds(instruments) compared to a few other music apps. Almost no ethnic sounds, poor brass, woodwind reed piano selection etc. 2. repeated/recycled phrases! It was a good start to import phrases from ancient QY series (and sell them as a pack), but most of phrases are sort of flat with slight variation. QY pack is nice for the price, but these are over decade and a half old. Since this is mostly a phrase building/mixing app, why such slim selection? There are probably great thousands of phrases that Yamaha owns, if you do not want to give them away, why not sell these as packs? If you went through all the troubles creating the software, this is the least you can do. 3.True arranger functions such as start/fills/verse/end/ etc. Should be super easy to implement given all the features that program has already. 4. importation of Yamaha Style Files. I have many arranged from my older Yamaha keyboards. This would be selling point for many. Conclusion: Have packs "in App" purchases with phrases such as Jazz, Afro Cuban, Reggae etc. Sell sound packs with woodwinds, brass, pianos etc. Ok for the sale price, but I paid premium, should have waited.
