Fix this please

Great idea but crashes all the time. Hangs on syncing.

PDF syncing is not consistent!

I got this app to read papers and sources while not at my laptop. The only problem is... PDFs imported through Mendeley Desktop won’t download or sync to this app! It’s pretty pointless if I can only view the citation for the paper and not the actual document. There are workarounds, such as importing the document through the mobile app itself, but existing highlights and notes that were made on the desktop app won’t transfer. Sadly support isn’t very helpful, as it seems this is a bug in the app itself and not some feature I’m neglecting to turn on.

Grave content errors

Be careful when clicking „update details“ to complete your citations. It changes the order of authors! I informed their support but they said they are aware of it but can’t do nothing about it. This can mess up your CV and your publications.

Nice but needs improvement

It’s very nice app with the auto sync and pdf view functions. However, it happened twice that the app froze during syncing. It didn’t work by forcing quit and restarting the app. The only way that worked is to reinstall the app from the App Store.

Need to fix PDF sync issues

Nancy Nematode

I’ve lately experienced the same issue as others: PDFs that show up in my web library never sync on the mobile app. I’ve left it syncing for hours waiting in vain for five PDFs to show up. This app used to be my preferred way to read papers, but right now it’s not worth the hassle and I’m stuck staring endlessly at my laptop. I hope this bug is fixed soon.

Was great, but now they hold your data hostage

Recent changes to the Mendeley app include encrypting your database of research files, including all of your annotations and metadata. Mendeley claims this is to protect us and is part of GDPR, however, a key provision of that law is allowing for data portability - the ability to get your data out of this app that allows you to switch to a different tool is crucial. If you use the Mendeley auto-backup feature for your database, I’d suggest navigating to it on your Mac/Win computer (do a search to find the directory path). Then make a backup copy of your Mendeley database folder and the previous versions that are saved - ideally put this on an external drive. Even if you continue using Mendeley, having an unencrypted copy of your library will give you more flexibility to recover your data if needed.

It's okay

I've used Mendeley for a couple of years now, and it's pretty good compared to some other reference managers out there, but it's buggy and could be more user-friendly. 1. Fix the MS Word plugin 2. Allow the ability to add PDF's without having to download them as a print version, lots of metadata is lost or incorrectly saved that way. 3. Allow the ability to mark papers as unread. 4. Allow a drawing and lasso select ability. 5. Allow users to edit the opacity of highlight colors. It's pretty good for other science reference managers out there, but could do better. The ability to connect with the Researcher app is great! Would be even better if you could save your bookmarked papers from researcher in specific folders in Mendeley and mark as unread.

Used to be great, now usuably buggy

Crashes are frequent as are freezes. I have to restart the app about once per minute (sample size: 5 minutes of use & 5 restarts). To open a pdf, I have to time the GUI glitches so I could press the right location. Nearly unusable

No way to import PDFs ?

I’m confused by this lack of essential functionality

this app used to be useable, now it is not. Not on my phone, not on my iPad. Barely useable on my macbook. On the ipad or phone, it has a spinning sync wheel that never goes away and renders the rest of the app unresponsive. The rare times when no spinning wheel is present, only some of my references have their associated pdfs attached as downloadable, even though I know my actual library has them synced. I’m looking for a replacement reference and pdf manager. Preferable one not owned (ruined) by elsevier.
