Cool idea, but rather inaccurate

Phil Grad

I liked the idea of this app and was impressed by the idea it could work. It turns out, though, that it doesn’t work terribly well. Measurements are surprising accurate given the data it has to work with, but not accurate enough to be of much use. For example, my 6’ tall husband, is, per this app, 5’8”. My 7’9”x11’1.5” rug, per this app, closer to 7’x10’. These measurements were taken on an iPhone X.

This is one of the worst apps ever

Please don’t waste your money on this app. It doesn’t do any of the things it claims to do.

amazing

I’m not sure how it can measure distances like this. Seems fairly accurate with the iphone x.

Useless

This app never measured right. 2 feet come up as 14 feet and I got it right may be the once.

Worse with updates.

Original version worked surprisingly well. Now measurements are inaccurate, surfaces are never detected correctly and the camera never focuses and is so blurry it hurts the eyes.

Not working.

It sometimes will start. But usually it will sit at the “move around” screen. I measured a ruler that was well lit. The ruler was 6 feet long. It said it was 2ft. Maybe this works on the iPhone X. But not my iPhone 7 Plus.

Idea is very good, but...

I really love the idea, measuring stuff quickly and no need of a tape. Unfortunately it is far from accurate. If I do two measurements same door but one on the bottom the other on the middle, there is quite a bit of a difference in between. I have tested on multiple things. I hope developer can fix this issue, because this app could be a life saver many times.

Lines move

The measurement line almost never stays at the starting point no matter what I do. I honestly have no idea why the reviews are so positive. I thought these problems would not be so severe once I upgraded to the iPhone X, but it seems the hardware had nothing to do with the problem as I noticed absolutely no difference in quality.

Garbage

Not even close to accurate. I’m using iPhone X

Useless: The measurement points float around

Update for latest version: I was hoping this would work better with the update. Sadly now I can’t detect any surfaces at all. This app is still useless however much I want it to succeed. Previous review: The demo for this app sold me on the greatness and usefulness of Apple’s AR beyond just gaming. This specific app’s demo is the biggest reason I upgraded to iOS 11, and one on the reasons I upgraded to a new iPhone. Unfortunately the demo doesn’t match reality. I’ve never gotten this to work, no matter the room or lighting. The problem is that once a point is attached in space, it never stays there. It drifts around the image and space, making all your measurements terrible. This floating points phenomenon is never shown in the demo video even though it happens to me every single time I try it. This leads me to believe the video is not a real run of the app but simulated. I have high hopes for this kind of app. But this isn’t it. It never measures things correctly, which the thing it’s created to do. This isn’t the killer app you were looking for.
