The Luma app helps you set up a mesh network that’s customized to your unique home, and it's smart enough to keep that network running at full speed, full-time. All on its own.

Check your speed. Give access to friends. Set parental controls. Pause the internet for dinner. And see pretty much everything else you’ve ever wondered about your WiFi network, right on your phone.

Not only can you see who’s connected to your network, the Luma app also makes it easy for you to watch out for your family and home.

Just pull up the Luma app to see what devices are currently connected to your network. Luma also automatically recognizes any new devices in your home, and lets you grant or deny them access with a quick swipe.

The Luma app displays the results of Luma's enterprise-grade network security, so you never even have to think about it.

*The Good* WiFi coverage is solid. You can prioritize a device, such as your family Roku/TV. *The Bad* No PPPoE authentication, so if your fiber internet uses this you get to connect Luna to an old router. The security network scan feature is not helpful. If a device has 1,000 entries, you can’t just dismiss them all. No, you’d have to manually swipe-delete each one. UI-wise, they have No Dark Mode. Small grey text on a white background is hard to read. *The Ugly* I paid for premium support (5$ a month) and ticket requests are often ignored. Cancelled premium. The VPN service doesn’t work. Rather than notify customers, I had to ask why it doesn’t work and was told they are negotiating with service providers to resolve the issue. I wonder how many people think the are in “stealth mode” when they aren’t? Lack of customer communication as to what features work, don’t work now, or have been abandoned. Promised core features that were advertised, like knowing where your kids have been online, were never delivered.

Is Luma even operating?

The FAQ/Ticket site has been down since spring 2019z. Lumahome.com site went down around 9/2019. Support emails and in-app chat go unanswered. My assumption is there is no one running Luma since it was bought by FirstAlert.

Don’t bother

Ever since luma was bought out, there has been a lack of updates for the hardware and app. You’re better off with a well known router brand like Netgear, linksys, google, etc.

Luma is now abandonware

As others have mentioned, Luma as a company no longer exists. First Alert bought them in January of 2018 and promptly stopped releasing new firmware updates. Just a week before they announced the aquisition of Luma, First Alert released their own mesh WiFi system. I suspect Luma was bought for their intellectual property and/or engineering staff, and that First Alert had no intention of supporting the Luma system. In the last few weeks my Lumas APs have been constantly dropping WiFi connectivity. One minute my phone is online and getting 300 Mbps on a speed test, the next minute it has no WiFi and I can’t even see my SSID, the next minute I’m back online. I called First Alert customer support and they said, “after 3-5 years your Luma devices are nearing the end of their life.” What? These things are all solid state components, why would they suddenly stop working? It’s more likely that First Alert is no longer interested in spending money supporting Luma and fixing problems. But hey, he did pitch me on buying First Alert’s own mesh WiFi system. Fool me once...

Good to bad

Originally I was decently satisfied with the system. It looks like they have changed ownership and they are not quite sure what they are doing with the brand. Newell Rubbermaid purchased and nothing! 11 months and no updates. The system is failing and it is headed to the dump.

Product is dead

Haven’t updated for a long time. Both software and hardware have quite some annoying bugs. Already switched to a different brand and works so much better.

Needs more improvement

It has been more that a year and they haven’t updated the app for IphoneX. It’s a shame. Luma promised to rollout instant viewing when they launched the Luma product two years ago but they never did. I should have stayed with Eero!!!!
