Really nice app but I wish...

Marcoandsabrina

I would like this app to have automatic vertical scrolling. I paid twice for the premium version but I find it no different from the free version. There is no one to write to about this and no help if you need it. Also it doesn't Sync with my iPhone even though I paid for that feature. So why do I like it? It has many adjustments for me to make on the look of the page like Marvin. It looks great and has lots of fonts to choose from. Marvin gives even more background and paper choices, and actually syncs with other devices.

ABANDONWARE!

This app is a total rip off and does NOT work, as claimed, yet Apple hasn’t removed it, and will NOT GIVE A REFUND for this abandon app, that spies on all your clipboard entries, while constantly pasting who knows what information to your clipboard! It also disables syncing through iCloud totally! I cannot believe Apple hasn’t removed this app from the AppStore still!

This book is exciting to me.

Comment syncing

KyBook appears to store PDF annotations within the app itself. This makes it very frustrating to sync changes with other computers when using cloud storage. The entire PDF must be exported for viewing on another device.

KyBook 3 does not recognize djvu books.

I can read other formats but djvu books show blank covers and I get a DjvuKit error. Reinstalling doesn’t help.

Djvu stopped working

10pongal

iOS 15.2 kybook 3 0.7.8 Opened a folder of djvu books with about 20 books. It worked fine. I was able to read the books. I added another 50 books to the folder. Now it shows the covers for some books and just the title for some, stating there was an error in processing. When I try to open any book to read, even ones that worked earlier, it says djvu kit error 1. The app is now totally unusable.

Abandoned?

I was fairly bullish on this app in my original review (see below), but since that was written it seems that the developer has abandoned this product. After a flurry of work early on, there hasn’t been a release in years. More disturbing, the developer has stopped responding to queries about bugs/issues. ======================= I get it; software developers have to eat. But I find the release of “new” versions of payment apps to be irksome — especially when one has just paid for a previous version. There has to be a cleaner, more equitable method of handling this problem. As other reviewers have noted, the developer of KyBook has supplemented the pay structure of this app by allowing users to “subscribe”, which allows the syncing of e-book metadata, reading positions, bookmarks, etc. I have no philosophical objection to this; but no real interest in it either. The interface for 3 is better than 2’s, but not a *lot* better. I still sometimes struggle a bit trying to figure out how to do something. And it sometimes takes quite a few taps to complete a task that I think should require fewer. And, perhaps because it’s a relatively new app, there are a few other quirks; for example, certain app sequences cause the text to reflow in a rather distracting/annoying fashion. This is something of a “ jackknife” app; that is, it does a lot of thing well. There are more specialized apps that can perform better in certain circumscribed circumstances. For example, I’ve noticed that GoodReader will work with certain problematic PDFs which KyBook chokes on. But I *do* appreciate that jackknife quality of Kybook’s.
