This app is going to cause major harm to children and teenagers by giving them incorrect information about healthy living and eating. This app may cause restrictive eating patterns that lead to eating disorders. This app is not ok. It is not safe for your kids. Follow intuitive eating wisdom to help your children learn how to live and eat healthfully.

DANGEROUS APP

You deserve better

If you’re a child reading this, I hope you know that you are so much more than a number and your worth is more than a size. You are enough just as you are and do not need to “lose weight to be healthy.” It is normal to gain weight as you are growing, and especially while going through puberty.

Doesn’t seem so interested in “health”

izinghini

For an app that claims to really value “health,” it seemed to have no problem with me listing that I am 5’5 and 90 pounds (very underweight), and listing my goal as weight loss. It also had no problem with me logging that I ate nothing but carrots for every meal for two days straight. You’d think an app focused on “health” would mark these behaviors as red flags, but of course Kurbo didn’t. Everyone please don’t download this garbage app. They don’t care about health, they care about pulling your children into the toxic diet industry.

Please do NOT allow your child to use this app!

All eating disorders start with diets. Instead of encouraging disordered eating behaviors, learn about Intuitive Eating. The Intuitive Eating Workbook for Teens by Elyse Resch is a much healthier approach.

Unhealthy messages for kids

bajuch

As a clinical dietitian, I am HORRIFIED that there is an app to teach KIDS to lose weight and to buy into diet culture that far too many teens and adults have fallen victim to, to the detriment of not only their physical health but also their mental health. This is DANGEROUS territory for kids. It is one thing to teach good eating habits when kids are young - it is entirely another thing to teach them that some foods are automatically bad foods and that they need to worry about their weight. PLEASE TAKE DOWN THE APP.

WW should be ashamed of themselves!

This is disgusting! Kids don’t need before and after pictures. So disappointed in this company.

Pediatric dietitian says no

LindsayJayne

As a pediatric registered dietitian, I am horrified at this app’s attempt to “help” children lose weight. This goes directly against the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the National Eating Disorders of America recommendations on how to approach childhood nutrition. Children think in black and white. When a child is out on an eating plan with the goal of weight loss, the message they get is “I will love you when... you lose weight/you look like me/ you do what I couldn’t...” There are many many eating disorder stories that begin with “my mom took me to Weight Watchers when I was ___.” This app out an unqualified health coach in direct contact with your child, making such ludicrous suggestions as cooking your eggs in applesauce rather than butter. Children need to be allowed to approach food in a curious and adventurous way, not by logging every food consumed with consequences waiting for them. If you are concerned about your child’s health, please find a pediatric registered dietitian who can assist you in guiding your family toward balance, both in nutrition and in food enjoyment.

Dangerous

isagrawr

This app rates foods as “good” and “bad” and encourages kids to count calories- all things that are proven to lead to eating disorders. If you are concerned about your child’s health, look into intuitive eating, and work on body acceptance/neutrality. Using this app will backfire in a big big way.

AWFUL

This is a dangerous app for kids.

Not the answer!

chellebugthree

This app teaches children to attach their value to their weight and has been condemned by the National Eating Disorders Association. This app should not be available or supported!
