App is great. Very clear. I am on track to learn to play.

Amazing resource

Bought a guitar 3 months ago, it was sitting in my living room stating me down for about 1 month before I finally picked it up to try and learn how to play. Tried Yousician first and it had me playing single notes, also seemed very glitchy and not a fun way to learn. Read about Justin Guitar on reddit, so I downloaded it and can play my first song “three little birds” by Bob Marley after 6 weeks. Never actually thought I would be able to learn being a bit older but Justin makes it very easy and actually fun! This is the cheesiest review ever but I’m just excited about finally learning an instrument.

Dabbling to Playing

Richard A.

I’ve been playing around with my guitar for more years than I care to admit. I never stuck with it long enough to get over the beginner’s hump. Strumming has always been a challenge. Justin’s guitar site was a great teacher, but this app has helped me put things together in a way I wasn’t able to in the past. Some things I love about the app include the strumming patterns provided, the step by step learning method, and the variety of songs. I’m really impressed by the number of songs. Maybe it’s my age just being right, but there are a lot more songs that I love than I had expected to find. I also love that you can set up to three chords to practice with the app and follow along with it, kind of like a metronome. I’m about half way through the lessons in the app. Though I avoid monthly fees like the plague, I do feel like I’m getting my values worth on this. If new songs keep being added, it will be hard for me to give this up in the near future. My minor criticism is that some songs don’t have the strumming pattern yet. It feels incomplete for those few songs, like they were uploaded before they were complete. I’d also like to see more attention given to the current strumming patterns. Some don’t seem to match the song well at all. Finally, I’d love it if Justin included ear training as done on his site. I’d rather have one app with add-ons than four different ones. I highly recommend giving this app a try if you're new to the guitar or if you’re trying to develop your understanding of the basics (and then some). I’d expect to keep the subscription for at least two or three months if you’re practicing often. Still far cheaper than an instructor.

Best guitar app

Shebubba

Truly this is the best guitar app out there, and I have tried tons! I have done many of Justin’s courses on YouTube and on his web site but this is even better! At first I was annoyed that I had to go through every exercise to progress to the next level, but I soon realized how helpful that is When I did the online lessons I would move on without practicing much. Now I realize the lessons are more effective when you put them into practice. This app does that in a fun way. You play songs based on the lessons you learned. It is truly awesome! Even as an intermediate player I learned new stuff and discovered new ways to play songs I already knew. The app keeps growing with new lessons! I hope to keep seeing new content and that maybe an intermediate app is on the horizon! Thanks Justin!! You’re the best!

Thank you Justin

I’ve started and quit several times before using your courses; now I pick-up my guitar every day. I want to get better so I can unlock the next section.

Love it!!

Really great app with lots of variety of songs and exercises that will improve your playing and moving between chords. With recent updates, there are more songs and the complete beginner course is now available! In the Playground, you can save to favorites and use that as a playlist to practice playing several songs non-stop. The app always works and is very stable.

Good teaching tool

Pretty sweet stuff

If you are self motivated and can fit 20-30 minutes of practice in every day this is a great resource for learning guitar. The tools if used correctly and frequently can help you improve quickly and the videos are done well and explain things in a very understandable way. If you apply yourself and use this resource there is no reason you won’t become a proficient guitarist.

Just what I was looking for.

Frustrated by the bugs

I was looking for a systematic online guitar tutorial that I could do at my own pace, that teaches chords, strum patterns, and picking patterns, plus how to read tabs, how to play songs, and how to play with other musicians. This is it, and you can try it for free. This app gives you opportunities to practice the online lessons, or you could use the premium membership as a stand alone program. The free version includes a guitar tuner, dozens of karaoke style practice songs, and a chord change practice page (how many chord changes can you do in a minute?) Certainly worth downloading, and worth paying for if you're serious. Much less costly than private lessons.

Not impressed so far

The Divine Sage

The content may be great but the app crashes constantly making it exceedingly frustrating to use. I've restarted my device numerous times and I'm not jailbroken or anything, so I don't know what gives. Either it will crash when I try to play a video or the video will actually play and then crash when it's done. Either way it doesn't save my progress.

Awesome Learning Tool
