Geo-locator too wide ranging. GPS should allow for more precise geolocat9ion.

I live in the San Francisco Bay area, where the habitats change every few miles. So no matter where I am hiking in the bay area I seem to get a list of 297 species of birds to choose from. This app seems to include pelagic birds, shorebirds, mountain birds and everything in between. And this list stays the same no matter what habitat I’m hiking in. I understand the Geo location has a radius of about 25 miles, equaling a diameter of 50 miles, which would make Geo locating pretty useless amid such diverse geography where I live. To make this app useful for Geo location, I think it would need a much smaller radius, say 5 miles. The choices for “time of year” are confusing because the six choices are not mutually exclusive. The app would be useful if it used a real-time data base of birds that have been cited in the last week or so in the location where I am hiking. This would eliminate a lot of birds to choose from that aren’t even located where I am at this time of year. The result is that after having this app for a number of months, I use it only as an encyclopedia of American birds. This is useful to me because it means I don’t have to carry a book with me.

RUDE and ACCUSATORY Developer

When writing about the app developer’s persistent demand for more money, he lashed out and nastily accused me of having written a bad review. I hadn’t even written a review at that point. Well, now I am. App is... - expensive - difficult to navigate - a money-maker if you fall for every add-on offered in piece-meal fashion - “supported” by an angry developer

Ultimate means nothing...

The app is great. The in app purchases, are not great. I thought Ultimate meant something. I guess I was wrong and wasted 20 bucks when I bought the trio of ibird apps. Now they add Mexican Owls which is another 1.99. Isn't Mexico part of North America? And doesn't Ultimate mean "there's nothing beyond this limit"? Guess not... I guess a part of me always knew this developer would begin charging for additions to this app. I have actually written to them about developing a birds of the world app, like the software for PC that you can buy on Amazon but is outdated and doesn't work on the new Windows. I would definitely pay for an "Ultimate" bird app that covered more than just Hawaii and North America like this app does, but not if there are micro transactions like this app has. This app is not Ultimate. It's barely scratched the surface when it comes to birding. Covering one continent doesn't make it Ultimate. It quite simply means "the best achievable or imaginable of its kind." If this is the best achievable or imaginable of its kind then I think we have overestimated the word "Ultimate" since day one.

I use it almost every day.

The art and photographs together are a big help with identification.

Love this - my constant companion!

I live in the woods in bird migratory flyway. This app is fantastic for helping identify our local birds as well as those passing through. I visit my sons on the west coast a lot and so it is great to have an app that covers it all! Always at my side for the occasional siting of birds as we drive. Love all features: photos sounds similar species etc.

Like Birding for Dummies

Makes it possible to ID birds with little experience. This and my binoculars and I am set.

Love the photos

This app far surpasses my others. I especially like the additional photos that are often supplied. They're a big help in identification.

Great birding app

Very well-designed app with lots of great features. The illustrations, photos and audio, and the bird search feature make using a his app a real pleasure. We called in three barred owls one night by playing the barred owl audio from our back deck!

Use this app all the time!
