As a way to learn Chinese this app has been very helpful. There are ways to upgrade but it isn’t full of ads or pay to play. Great options to work on pronunciation and intonation.
Very impressive, Better than Duolingo

(Updated review 2018) Been using HC for about a year now. And it has only gotten better. After 6 months I subscribed to the premium and don’t regret it. The immersion lessons are phenomenal and a superb addition. Many of the lessons I have applied directly when speaking to Chinese work colleagues, with success. If you are at all interested in learning Chinese without brick and mortar course instruction this is your best option. Much better than DuoLingo and Rosetta Stone. And great native speakers and learned speakers that answer any questions about Chinese and the lessons! (Update complete) I like many others were skeptical of another language learning app. My favorites so far have been DuoLingo and FluentU, but HelloChinese seems to have learned from both. In the sense it has more in depth and cultural content than DuoLingo but doesn't hide behind pay walls so early that you learn very little (like FluentU) before having to pay. Essentially if you don't pay you have to practice even more to get coins to unlock more lessons and extras, but that is not really a bad thing. Early on in a language basic repetition is very helpful. The extra YouTube "Chinese in a minute" episodes are also very helpful, the phrases are genuine Chinese that people use and they will be impressed at the idioms that you can wield as a beginner. The graphics, layout, and structure is very similar to DuoLingo but even more content packed into each lesson. Hello Chinese definitely filled that space that DuoLingo doesn’t fill in grammar and dialogue lessons. Great app. Worth paying for as well as you advance.

It is very easy to use! I really like the bits where I can practice my pronunciation and play it back to hear my own speaking. I can see myself improving already! :)

Amazing job guys. The new review is all I wanted. I was just talking about how to better memorize and such. And then you guys made this new review that automatically picks up the hard words. I used to be bored at flash cards. Now I really feel I can memorize with the review exercises. Also being able to check the words and videos etc of each one. This is an amazing update thank you very much!
