Looking for a quick, easy way to learn and practice Chinese? What about Duolingo? Think again. Duolingo makes you use LIMITED hearts when you miss a question. If you miss 5, you have to restart the lesson then go to practice mode, only to get 1 heart. If that‘s not bad enough, it sends emails to you everyday even if notifications are off. Just saying, your first choice should honestly be HelloChinese. HelloChinese has amazing ways to learn this language. Under “Learn” you can do normal lessons and practice if you click on the right side leaf. If you click on “Train” you get a daily free game. The games are only available for a day but are quite helpful. Under “Immerse” click on a free tab and you can do 5 different steps to learn how to say something in Chinese. I highly recommended this app for anyone that’s willing to learn something new.
It’s ok but it could be better

I really like the new updated course that HelloChinese has to offer. However, there are not nearly as many activities as the other course offered to complement the main course. There are some dialogue and immersive lessons but nearly all of them require additional money. It’s also pretty easy to pass the lessons as the answers to select from are the same most of the time. It’s not as challenging and I find that I can’t retain the information very well. Overall, I enjoy the main course over the older one as it is much more informative and actually has a separate section for learning Chinese characters, flash cards, and grammar points. HelloChinese is my go to chinese app if I’m on the go or simply have some extra time to practice my Chinese so I would recommend checking it out.

If you are looking to increase you Chinese language proficiency, this will be essential to increasing your level in the language quickly. I’m not wanting to read Chinese characters so the new version doesn’t work for me. Guess I’ll stay with the old version unless you give the option to skip in the new version like in the old. Otherwise your app is great.

Action based learning helps users retain the most Mandarin- discussion groups, practice by doing, teaching others.
