You can call US phone numbers from abroad, for free. It connects easily to your contacts. It's amazing

I work in an environment that has spotty to horrible cell reception indoors. I began using Hangouts on my iPhone to make calls via WiFi, when cellular reception is bad. With a few minor exceptions it works great. I DO NOT recommend giving out secure info when using it, as I have had other people's conversations bleed into my calls. This has been rare, but once is too much to risk privacy breakdowns.

Great family communication
Family Hangout
Google Hangouts has been a great tool for my family to communicate from Brooklyn to Baltimore to Seattle. My kids have been on Hangouts for quite sometime and they finally convinced my wife & I to join. I have several groups to include one with my kids, one with my wife and one with the whole family. We have shared travel plans, pictures and many other fun things.
Great Chatting app, still need integration.

The app by itself is good and useful for charting, messaging, video calls, you name it. Unfortunately, the integration with google services is getting worse by the minute. For example, moving hand outs from google+ makes that much harder to use google+ or start new conversions on this app. However, if your messaging life is limited to a few people and you already started conversation on the app there is nothing to complain about.
