Still reliable, powerful, but interface/sync suboptimal

BBooDoc

I’ve been using HandBase since I was a resident in about 2000, starting on the Palm Pilot, and all the way through to the iPhone6 now. I like, it, but the Desktop sync should be built in to the desktop version; as it is, once the demo ran out, I am told to sync my phone I have to buy a Plus version, but the website only offers upgrades to a Windows version, not a Mac version of HanDbase Plus. So kind of stymied now!

Great Mobile Database App

Boscovec

I have been using HanDBase since my first Palm IIIxe and have never stopped. It allows you to build simple or complex databases on the iPhone which rival many applications themselves. I have found the app indispensable over the years because of it's versatility. They also have great support as well as a large user-base which is friendly and accessible via the forums. There are literally tens of thousands of databases users have posted to be used as is, or tweaked. Ignore the negative reviews, I have never had a problem with this app or desktop program since it was introduced.

Excellent POSSIBILITIES but....

Tonygee360

Been using for several years and it does great things. Unfortunately it doesn't do the little things. When i create a new dbase and try to assign it to a different category it crashes. It also crashes when i try to rename it so i'm kinda stuck with whatever i name it and the settings i make when I create it. Next, the button to change the column doesn't respond well and it's too difficult to set precisely. Why not add the ability to type in a column width? And what's REALLY frustrating is that when I finally get the columns close to the width i prefer, they disappear as soon as i change to a different view or different dbase. #ItsTheLittleThings

Out of date

This app hasn't been updated in over a year, and even then, the last few updates were minor bug fixes. I've been using HanDBase since the Palm V days. I'm now worried that they are no longer vested in their product. Many doctors at my hospital have already moved on. Too bad. I will happily rewrite this review if they decide to catch up.

No accdb support??

Istap5786

Just one more app that promises efficiency and reliability. It can't handle accdb or acces 2010 database files. I have a database which I would like to communicate with the phone. Just one more dissappointment. I guess it does provide support if you buy a $35 dollar desktop client. No thanks.

Still no UNICODE!

futynuty

It's actually great DB. And they made the only confusing part (1-to-1, 1-to-many and many-to-1). Now I can consistently make it work. The bug is that our cannot use the uniquick field to look up. However my BIGGEST complain still: no UNICODE support!!! You know: not everybody prefer English. There are other languages as well. UPDATE: So much time passed, but STILL NO UNCODE!!!

Exporting CSV issue

OldTimer1849

HanDBase text fields allow carriage returns which are handy for showing text as a list in one field. However, if you ever want to export in CSV format to a spreadsheet, the CR will go out as a comma (or the spreadsheet will interpret the CR as a field delimiter) So the spreadsheet will create a new line for each CR. So vertical lists in one text field are not possible. I give HanDBase 5 stars anyway as it is a great app on my old iPhone 4!

Please update

Why can't they update this app

Developer Needs More Support

skytraveler

Its tough when you have a piece of software that is this old, and there is not a lot of buzz around it to create additional sales opportunities. Then you left with owners complaining about wanting new features, but not much revenue coming in to help make those features happen. I’m not sure what needs to happen to put this app back in the spotlight, but I wish the developer much luck with that. Hopefully as more revenue comes in, he can find the hours needed to make updates and add new features. Even with the lack of updates, this is the best database app on the store. I for one would be willing to put up some money for a subscription model, if the software was kept up-to-date through that revenue stream. Maybe there are more people like me out there, that find this app very useful, and wouldn’t mind supporting the developer financially so he could make additional updates.

Greatest database program. Shame that there are no updates. :(
