Haggis

From the green hills of the Scottish highlands comes a card game stuffed full of fun. The goal is simply to play all of your cards first. But beware, hidden in the misty crags are subtle strategies that require mastery of tricky combinations, wild cards and... "bombs".

Sean Ross designed Haggis over a number of years, extensively testing over thousands of hands to create a very engaging and balanced game.

The iOS edition was tastefully crafted to allow you to play 2-3 player matches of Haggis against AI players, with automated scoring and built in reserve mechanics to allow you to sort and manage your hand. You can play a short game to 250 points, or a longer game to 350 points--whichever suits your mood. And the great thing is the ability to pick up and continue play wherever you left off if you need to take a break, or get back to work.

Here is just some of what people are saying about Haggis:

San Francisco Chronicle
"Haggis, created by Sean Ross, boasts elegant design, crystal-clear rules and enough strategic subtlety to reward repeated play, all without putting it beyond the reach of a canny preteen."

The Rumpus Room
"Every aspect of the game feels very considered and polished."

Matt's Board Game Back Room
"... Haggis doesn't TRY to be Tichu - it just tries to be a good game in-and-of itself and has it's own subtleties and strategies which provides a new challenge with the same level of tension and excitement."

Hiew's Boardgame Blog
"Fans of traditional card games definitely should give Haggis a try."

Designed for iPhone 4 and iPad, we hope you will enjoy the beautiful graphics, animation, and sound effects of the game. Designed by Sean Ross and initially published by Indie Boards & Cards, it has been brought to the iPad by IQ Foundry--another independent game publishing company.

iPad has no landscape view?! Otherwise very good.
doubleclick28

Very good presentation of the game. The biggest gripe I have is that there is no landscape mode for the iPad. This makes zero sense. The iPhone version is landscape only so why can’t we have landscape on the iPad? I really hate having to hold the iPad vertically if I’m reclining while playing. Pretty much every iPad case ever made has a stand built in so you can set it on your table or lap in landscape view. So why would you make your beautiful game, which already has the code to do landscape (evidenced in the iPhone version), be forced to only be in portrait? Please, please change this so we can enjoy your game even more.

Fun and complex card game.

A card game connoisseur’s card game

High-quality app version of one of the best card games of all time (even though that game is just a couple years old). No multiplayer but I’m ok with that (and boardgamearena.com offers it for free). The one issue I’ve run into, and I’ll make my rating a full five stars when they fix this, is when I flip my phone the other way (iPhone 6s, latest iOS), the screen goes black and I have to crash the app and reopen to use it again.

Black Screen

If you flip your phone in the wrong direction you get stuck with the music and a black screen. Please fix!!

Beautiful but crashing
fun boy

Been playing for about 20 mins. Beautiful design and the tutorial is helpful. But it keeps crashing on me

This is a really nice adaptation of the original game. It is very fun to play.

Enjoyable

Fun to play casually, or to really dig in and strategize to go for the win. Feels nice, looks and sounds very polished to create a great atmosphere. I'm hooked.

Beautiful and deep

This is a very polished adaptation of the classic card game, and the tutorial really helps for new players and as a refresher. It was simple and engaging to start with, but now I'm having a hard time putting it down as I dig into the strategy. I think I will be losing a lot of sleep :).

Could be a favorite

Love climbing games and this is a good one. But....it does crash. ALOT! For the price, it is my opinion that crashing with such regularity is unacceptable. I have no other issues really so the game would be a 4 or 5 star otherwise.

Fun game but it crashes a lot

Th game is fun but it crashes a lot. The graphics are good and AI is good. The rules need a little clarification. The bombs section doesn't mention that the lowest bomb has to be a rainbow. I had to look it up.
