Grim Tales - Scary and Fun

Customized refresh rates as fast as 15 seconds. Many inventive HOPs and puzzles. Teleporting Hint button. Long-playing. Morphing, puzzle parts, collections, etc. Another excellent Elephant game.

I didn't like this game as much as most. Fair map - it does transport. Graphics were just average. Storyline - same. There were too many things to collect for me - morphing objects - bobbing head dolls were pretty cool - & puzzle pieces - & u don't even get to do the puzzle - they do it for you as you find the million pieces. The only way I'd forgiven having to find 3 or 4 puzzle pieces in most scenes would if they'd let me put the puzzle together. I saw no need to in that. It was ridiculously short - even by today's standards. I finished the whole game in a day while taking time out to do other things. Needless to say, I wish I hadn't spent the time & money on it. There were a few saving graces. The HOP'S were fun & different. But there were way too many mini-games. I don't usually like the dang things, anyway - I guess probably because I'm not very good at them. I have to rely on the Guidance strategy is & this one had several solutions that were incorrect - or I mis-copied them. Never know, but I usually do pretty well. (With good help). The game didn't help much, either. I still don't know. I hope my next one will be better. I was on a good streak, so now I'm afraid I'm on a bad one.

Loved it!!!

Excellent!! Story line made sense. Graphics were well done. Loved all the little extras to search for. Really enjoyed the music and background sounds. Well done!! Thanks!!

This "Heir" Makes My "Hair" Stand Up!

UPDATE: I found that this game contained very frequent laborious and tedious puzzles, which were patterned to be mostly rotational and "one move affects another" in nature. In addition, some of the micro puzzles were minute in size causing me to strain my eyes; namely, the one where you move and join insects to follow a pattern. Had this been enlarged, I would have persevered. The most frustrating gripe was that I was forced to skip the concluding puzzle board due to unfavorable user-friendly options. Most puzzles boards confirm your choice to skip certain parts, which I rarely do. So when I could not turn off all of the sun's rays in order to obscure the moon disk's view, I figured I could skip that part. So I pressed the skip button anticipating that option; and to my dismay, the whole puzzle self-completed and the game was over. I am a lover of puzzles so these grievances disrupted my enjoyment. If you love these types of games as stated in the first sentence, then this is the one for you. The premise of this series is typically formulaic in that you travel back in time to catch an evil doer wreaking havoc on your family. Prosaic? Yes. But there is something captivating in each one that is distinguishable as they contain elements of apprehension, mystification, and clairvoyance. Baleful and sinister personas are brought into focus; one in particular is depicted as a freshly stitched-up, wretched beast with a symbol-infested, tattoo-etched face, who reminds me slightly of the ever so notorious, Frankenstein. The graphics/colors are dark, faded, muddy, and visually unappealing; they lack the refinement and delicacy that define sophisticated, adept quality. The artwork is garnished with occult-like, macabre, and ritualistic imagery attributing to an ill-boding and pernicious ambiance. You can customize your settings; the options are standard in nature. The inventory is labeled and interactive; items require assembly. The sensitivity and movement of items are immediate. The map is organized in an orderly fashion allowing for fast, coherent transport to determined location, along with marked available tasks and labeled locations. Transition between scenes is fluid and brisk. The textual information is translated in the form of acquired reading materials; one deficiency is that interactive pop-ups remain open due to these reading materials, which can cause confusion and repeated access as if there is something left to do. A journal would obviate this issue. The HOS are interactive, puzzle-like, and multitudinous; they were imaginative in nature, such as the one where you must find items in the dark room with a flashlight. The puzzles were unvaried; most were mechanical; some tested your dexterity skills. The instructions were unambiguous and logical - mostly. The collectibles were very conspicuous in placement. I experienced no glitches. My snivels are the substandard graphics, unvarying puzzles, and lack of a journal, which is why I deducted two stars.

Grim Tales Wins Again!

I have to admit that since Big Fish went to their greedy policy (after they were bought out), of "No buy until you Try", I Never buy a game without a review. So when a new Grim Tales came out, I waited and waited for a review (a tip of the hat to Dracy!), I was nearing the end of the "discount" period (haha New Big Fish has added a new wrinkle to their Greed Policy: Give the users such a short time to buy that there isn't time for good reviews to have time to finish and have a decent full-review before time runs out and you have to mortgage the house to pay full price). However, let that stand for my soapbox for the New Big Fish, and on with the review: So, having no reviews, I finally had to make up my mind by using the history of "Grim Tales", of which I have purchased every one. Folks, although this game is not for little children, or those queesy about skeletons, and adverse to references to the dark arts or the after world, this is arguably the best Grim ever. Incredible graphics, tons of rooms, great voice-overs, easy transportation via the hint button (no penalty), and a pot that puts many other HO games to shame. It is probably safe to say that Elephant games gave enormous thought and time into this game. Big Fish, if you reviewed your own games before you released them, we might not need reviews. That is why people give you a bad rap. This game, however, was darn near worth more than 5 stars, even considering the few translation to English mistakes. BUY this one, and when (or if) Big Fish ever has a Real discount sale, like we used to see, Buy every Grim title out there.

Best game I've played in a long time!

Smallbeans

Fun from the beginning all the way thru the bonus game. Well worth the money!!

It's alright

It's pretty good but prefer being given the word for hidden object scenes. A lot of inventory to collect. Took me a while to figure out I need to put list by flowers to collect, which was strange because I would have thought I would use scissors. So not so obvious things to do. It's alright. Just not one I prefer.

Another installment in the Gray saga, with more time traveling. It was an enjoyable game. Dracyy, that chinchilla was cute but when it jumped and screeched I thought it was a RAT and almost fainted! You could customize settings on this game. The graphics were dark, gloomy and dreary but still good, and the cut-scenes were exciting! No journal once again! Just notes so I couldn't explain the story if I tried! Objectives were updated at least. The inventory was labeled and interactive and had plus items to assemble. Loading was instantaneous between locations and there was a marked, if so customized, teleport map to transport you, and it was necessary because there's lots to do at each location. Also good for us lazy folks! The HO scenes were varied and not overly numerous. There were a lot of puzzles and games. Some were rotational junk but others were good and there was a super puzzle. Some were games of skill/dexterity. The hint system was of the non-spoiler type. The game was lengthy and had a bonus adventure. Lots of collectibles for those who like them; not me because they are a distraction to the game. The extras had a secret room, which I didn't really care much about either! I deducted a star only because there was no journal and I could have used one and also because the game shut down a couple of times. No fatal flaws though; the gameplay was actually quite smooth and inventory usage was not a problem. I look forward to the next installment. Lynxie sends ❤️?? to Dracyy, KimTwilight and the rest of the DTE!

No glitches, good game

Deducted a star because the main character's voice was SO slow and annoying, i had to keep skipping the dialog. Cutscenes and minigames were good though; some very good item design.
