Best App Ever

Habutti

Best app for flying so far, and the support is excellent.

Why do they remove features with “upgrades”

FreeFly42

Was looking forward to cool new stuff from the acquisition of flightplan.com, but Garmin continues to follow the pattern of taking stuff away with upgrades. This time it is fuel planning that no longer works. The flight plan used to be able to show time distance and fuel required for each leg. But there’s something mysterious missing in the fltplan.com profile for my experimental and now time and fuel no longer calculate. And I can’t submit a flight plan through the fltplan.com integration. Thank god Leidos still works but I bet they’ll take that away soon. Previously they took away my favorite calculation “vertical speed required” which was so nice to simply know if I start descending now what rate is needed to arrive at my dest. Nope. That’s gone. I have been converted from a real Garmin fan to a hater. I wish I could stop getting their updates, what critical features will they take away next? I wish Garmin would allow other vendors to connect to their equipment as then I wouldn’t regret buying Garmin avionics too. Thanks for making me despise your products, Garmin.

Garmin please read

The Garmin App is the best for map interface - and nobody that has flown with it would say otherwise. Having said that there are a few items that need addressing before I can 5 star this app. 1) Weather Briefing is severely lacking. Easily one of the worst pre-briefs for weather. You will find yourself reading thousands of code searching for pertinent info - feels like the old days of receiving fax for briefing. FF is the clear industry leader providing visual depiction of active weather hazards. 2) Garmin is quickly falling behind on flight planning. You cannot add a runway and have it highlight, you cannot pick a pattern intersect and you cannot add approach fixes to plan. FF does all of these. 3) FBO planning interface also severely behind relative to competition in terms of visuals and addition to flt plan. 4) No way to print NavLog. This would be very helpful so I can print kneepad NavLog and frequency/airport charts prior to flying. Especially useful since Garmin Pilot has tendency to shut down without warning. 5) Checklist is an excellent addition, and I like that I can update to match my G1000, however I am not able to read the font on my IPad mini - it’s just to small. It would seem font should be adjustable for user interface. 6) FltPlan.com offers zero value to general aviation, GP integration is non-existent and clearly team rushed into prior to planning execution. I see no value in this integration. I have tried it, and I have removed it. I believe that if Garmin’s mapping interface wasn’t as good as it is, the majority of users would never renew given other lacking features. You basically choose to use other apps for flight planning so you can use the GP app for actual flying. This is truly disappointing for a company that has the resources to fix these issues and lead the industry for weather planning. This feature should be #1 priority for your software engineering teams.

If it had my checklist

I am trying hard to use only one app, but without the Checklist for my Cessna 182T I cannot let go of ForeFlight. I know I could type it all by hand one day, but... otherwise I like Garmin Pilot a lot.

Unresponsive team

I’ve had a GP subscription since it first came out. I pair it to a flight stream for interaction with my avionics. For several years I’ve requested a feature with the team via email and in person at Oshkosh regarding the loading of waypoints. If an approach is loaded the GP App stops navigating at the first fix. I also have FF and it seamlessly loads all the fixes through the flight stream. If a non Garmin app can do this why can’t Garmin? Also the WX imagining section no longer offers things like winds aloft. It started off strong years ago but seems to be slipping by the wayside. For the first time I’m considering not renewing

Commercial Ag Pilot

I have both Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight and feel Garmin Pilot is far more user friendly in terms of the user interface. Which carries over well with other Garmin flight decks. However, I REALLY wish Garmin would incorporate a satellite map overlay as Ag and many helicopter pilots operate with reference to physical landmarks on the ground. I feel if Garmin had this feature they would be “hands down” best in the business.

App gps isn’t current.

kamely22

When I fly, even at low altitudes. My gps is always off. No it’s not my iPad, because ForeFlight tracks it well. So what’s the issue here?

No Stratux or GDL90 Support

Matias A320

This app would be perfect if supported Stratux, instead they make you buy the GARMIN ads b for 4 time the price, not worth it, I’m buying foreflight
