Unforgivably rough

I don’t know how to make iOS apps, but I know this isn’t how you do it.

Constantly down

We love using it but it keeps going down for hours. Today it says app version check failed. Get latest version. In the App Store it says it was already updated and when I try to open it I get the same error. Now I have to try deleting and downloading.

Crashes frequently. CA ruined this app

- crashes when getting a notification while typing, usually at the worst possible time - falsely claims I don’t have the latest version, so persistent and annoying “app version” pop ups - doesn’t have correct notification state - randomly loses text I’m typing - particularly crashy in low bandwidth situations Flowdock coulda been a contender. It has the best threaded messaging implementation. But as a customer I don’t really feel like CA cares about improving this app. It’s locked in 2012 for quite a bit of functionality and really hasn’t changed since it was acquired by CA. iOS persistently a buggy app is an example of this.

From great to worst?

I wish I could say the last 6 months have brought huge improvements to the fd iOS app. Unfortunately, it’s quite the opposite. All the issues from the old, unmaintained app seem to have remained, but now we have: - Huge power drain, probably the number one issue. - Read state that doesn’t sync between desktop and mobile. - Constant issues where opening a thread presents a different state than one sees in the main chat. - Reading a thread when a new message comes in always scrolling you to the bottom of the thread. New versions of the app are terrifying instead of exciting. What will be broken next? Frankly, it’s like the flowdock developers don’t use the iOS app. Or they do, and their product managers don’t let them fix it in the name of new development. Either way, despite the incredible competitive advantage of threading as implemented in fd, I’m on the cusp of recommending our team abandon the whole product for how absolutely horrendous the mobile experience has become. Someone give this poor app a few bug fix only sprints, please. Who cares if we have better search when the app is such a disaster for simple chatting?

Super Not Good

App doesn’t work for iPad multitasking, since all you can see in slide-over mode is the Flowdock sidebar. Multitasking has been a part of iOS for a long time and should be fully supported by now. Unread notifications are useless since they reappear after relaunching the app, even if there are no new messages. Defeats the purpose. I have to check and refresh every flow if I want to be sure I’m caught up.

Pretty much unusable

Try using the app for any amount of time and you’ll grow frustrated by crashes, freezing, and the inability to actually navigate through threads and notifications. Do the developers even own iOS devices?

Going downhill

Update (4/19/18): To their credit, most of these original issues were fixed. But in their place there are new more serious bugs, so I'm actually lowering my score. - The app freezes literally every 5 minutes. - Chats will sometimes stick around after switching tabs. - The sidebar doesn't update automatically anymore, and must be manually refreshed. - Refreshing the side bar will show green dots for posts you've actually read, just on another device. - Notifications will also show up even if you've read them on another device. Including for messages *you wrote yourself to someone else*. - Switching to a new tab will often make it show up only in the top half of the app. Any attempts at scrolling when this happens just causes it to refresh and scroll back down. As before, I ran into all of these issues just while updating this review. Original post: The old iOS app (the one without avatars in the chat) was excellent. The new one, not so much. These are some of the problems you'll run into if you use the app for more than 5 minutes: - If you scroll up to see more of the history, it'll suddenly stop. To get past it, you need to pull down further to get it to load more history. While this is happening, the chat scrolls *all over the place*. - If you open up a thread, you can't see the entire discussion without first closing the thread and scrolling up in the main view to the point where the thread started. Have fun if that was a couple of days ago. - If you've scrolled up to catch up on things, it will randomly scroll to the bottom forcing you to scroll up again. - My avatar is currently showing in the sidebar as the default for a missing avatar, and my name is showing as @Nickname. - Sometimes when opening the app the chat turns completely empty. - Images often show up as gray squares, even though they show up fine when you tap it. - Sometimes when an image loads, the view will scroll so the last message is at the center of your screen, with nothing below it. There's probably more issues I'm not thinking of, but this is what I ran into for the 10 minutes I spent writing this review.

The ‘new’ has been painful

JLS94

Back when the app was Orange (or maybe yellow?) it seemed to work great. We use Flowdock at work all day everyday and the mobile app is essential. But ever since the switch to the white icon and the ‘new’ app I have had nothing but issues. Same as others have described. I get connection issues telling me I’m behind an update and moments later it acts like it’s fine. It will fail to show me new messages in a flow and I’ll end up killing the app and reopening it. If you are typing in a 1:1 and you accidentally or intentionally try to scroll the thread, as if to read something else while responding, and you happen to hit the end and it refreshes, all your text is deleted.... super frustrating when you just wrote a big reply.

Bad bad bad

omgitsatrap

Terrible product on iOS. I had the opportunity to use it was Android as well and that express was great. iOS is buggy.

Messages and new message indicators don't load

JamesPaden

Messages won't work 80% of the time. When they do work, they're really slow. You never know if you need to visit a channel because the new message notification dot probably doesn't work either. Incredibly frustrating app that hasn't worked right in years.
