Terrible app! And it charges!

MKinC4ever

Poor quality, terrible! The worse thing is, it charges to view your own media on iOS, Android, Xbox! Hey, come on! Check PLEX please! Better quality and free to view on any devices!

Great App and Service!

Thanks for making it easy to manage my entertainment collection!

Apple has failed me again

Nova3wii

I run an Emby server and because I don’t really like streaming services. So I have my own media that I will watch or listen to. Attention apple or the devs why did you put MY OWN MEDIA behind a pay wall, so not only do I have to buy a movie I have to pay to watch it again. For anyone wondering this DOES NOT happen on android or anything else I’ve tried even a smart tv lets me get to my movies very disappointed.

You really want Jellyfin

Hamstercannon

If you’re looking at self-hosted media servers, what you really want is Jellyfin. Emby has done great work, but now that Jellyfin is caught up with client apps, there’s no more reason to use this.

Solid, but needs picture-in-picture support

greatcaffeine

It’s a good app overall, and everything performs well. Only complaint is the lack of picture-in-picture support for iPadOS. You can make that work if you skip the app and use Safari instead, but that’s not as convenient as launching a native app.

Limited

Mbaligh22

The app is limited even on a local connection. Should have been paid from the beginning to avoid the mess of uninstalling everything

Much better than Plex

Bad App for iOS and FireTV

Dallas8402

If you have an iOS/iPadOS/FireTV device, use JellyFish.. the apps are nearly impossible to use without having to have to pay for a one time fee $5(ish). So personally what I did to bypass this scam. If I also set up JellyFish on my PC so I have Emby and JellyFish server running, JellyFish for any place where it has you purchase... I can now get it free without needing to. Other than that Emby is great. I have Emby for my 5 Roku TV’s and they’re doing great. No issues with those.

Easier than Plex, but Premiere required

cglavan83

I host my own media server and got fed up with Plex requiring registration of my server with my online account because my server wasn't showing up. Enter Emby Media Server! Easy to install, and no requirement to register anything in order to access my media locally. HOWEVER... You cannot watch your hosted media on iOS without being forced to purchase. I understand devs need to eat, and the devs have done great work with Emby, but if users can't watch their own media on their own server in their own home without having to purchase a feature, then make the app $4.99 to download. Making it a free download and then requiring a purchase to use is borderline bait-and-switch in my book. Premiere service should unlock extra features and extra media available online through my account that I don't already own-- I would be willing to spend money on that. Premiere should not be required for basic functionality. That one flaw dropped my rating from 5 stars to 3. Still prefer Emby over Plex, but instead of paying for extra content I'm now deleting this app.
