A much needed update to the OG

Let’s be honest, having to select STAIRS was the worst back in the [NES] day. This is a great game. Love it.

Something that I’ve been missing

GIVEME53Y

I’ve never played the DQ series before nor did I want to. Yet after the release of “The Hero” in SSBU (smash) I couldn’t hide the fact that the music and game interested me. I’ve never played the NES version or the other remakes besides this one on IOS. I got to say that this is a game I’ve been missing. It was classic RPG in its finest. I used a YouTube video title “how to beat DQ in 5 mins” and I don’t regret it either. I enjoyed my experience so much I became a fan. This is my first time playing the game and I got to say that it is a 5/5. I told my wife that I think I would love DQ more then FF if I played it first. The price is beautiful too. Can’t beat it. I hope you liked my first review. I’m on a mission to clear every DQ game on IOS. Check me on the other games review too. Keep track of me. I’m here. #firstreview

Great port

Otakumons

First time playing through these classic dragon quest games and thanks to the mobile ports they are easy to grab and go. play for 15mins and stop, go do what ever and come back and pick up right where you left off. The port is self is pretty good to me at least being able to customize the controls location and only once during my play through did i freeze, but because of auto save the game froze or crashed, I closed the game and start up right before that event happened truly a great port.

Loving Port of a Classic ‘80s RPG

You buy the game. You play it. No servers, no log-ins, no in-app purchases, no excessive layers of currencies and pay-to-win mechanics. I had nearly forgotten phone games could be this straightforward. I bought this on a whim after the release of “Hero” in Smash Bros. reminded me of the original game (which was called “Dragon Warrior” in the U.S., in case anyone is looking for that game). Very happy with the purchase. The game itself is very old school. You’ll be doing a lot of grinding, but the touch screen menus make that more tolerable and it’s a decent enough way to pass the time. Most phone games force you into grinding anyway, but suggest you pay money to skip it. In this one you’ll just have to slash away at slimes until you level up to take on better enemies like the old days. The overworld controls are a little goofy, like all phone d-pads, but they get the job done and finesse is not needed in this kind of game. I like the vertical orientation; it makes it easier to switch in and out of the app to do stuff on your phone without having to turn the whole phone. The updated graphics and music give the game a cool SNES vibe. I’d love the option to use the original graphics/music/screen resolution, but I can see how that might be infeasible given the phone layout. In any case, love has clearly been given to this port, and if you like ‘80s JRPGs, this is well worth your $3. I’ll probably play through the series and see if I can convince myself to check out DQ11 for Switch eventually.

Pretty solid

I got into dragon quest 11 last year and was curious about the previous ones. Considering this is the port/remaster of the 1985 version it’s pretty good and I’m happy with it.

This is classic RPG gaming!!

I freaking love this game!! The quick save and auto save features reduce difficulty but it also reduces a lot of frustration and wasted game play! Purists, get over it! Lol. I’m so glad they put these on iOS! I’m now beating the whole series!

Audio does not work

Contrasterg

Just got my iPhone 8 Plus and this app produces no sound on my phone please fix.

Short and Grindy

A Long 1515

The bad and strange: If the king is going to help you go beat the menace of the entire world, I think he should give you better equipment than a wooden club and less than 200 gold to start out with, but there was no arguing with him... That’s just petty. The game took less than 10 hours to beat. That’s not very satisfying. Also, the item you find in the first major dungeon, the Warrior’s Ring, does not seem to give any benefit. Item descriptions sometimes don’t reveal what certain items are used for. Example: Dragon Scale. You can equip it, but what does it do? No clue given. The world map is fairly small, and there is not enough direction from NPCs to complete the game in a very straight-forward manner, even if you talk to everyone, which I do. I broke down and had to get a guide because I got stuck without any clue what to do next. (You are permitted to roam the world after beating the boss, without any enemies to bother you. It seems a strange feature, and I looked around some some secret content by talking to villagers, but all they do is congratulate me.) Overall, though, throughout the game, the more you kill, the stronger you are, the easier it is to progress through the story. Basically, the game is set up to have you grind levels. If you don’t, you cannot succeed. The good: There is a story, a villain, and rewards. It kept my attention, and I feel some nostalgia by playing such a basic game. I was able to complete the game. I enjoyed killing dragons and the back-and-forth of fighting difficult enemies. The game is not easy, so you have to strategize and think how to plan how much you need to grind to move on. Overall: It’s an ok game. I guess it’s worth $3. I might play it again just to see how fast I can grind through it. I found a nice place to kill Gold Golems (they have big gold drops), so I’d just use my special spot to grind gold for equipment upgrades. Also, since I know what I need to beat the game, I might not need to stare at a guide. ? I’m feeling an overall mixture of meh-ok.

Just awful controls

I have no idea why this is rated so highly. Great game, but the controls are so miserable... There are many, many better ways to play this game.

Seriously Portrait mode?

Keep on tellin the truth

Honestly unplayable why would you only allow it in portrait mode when the ff series is in landscape ? Absolutely a waste of money.
