Use to work

zagatosz

Used to a great app but on my act has never worked properly. Keeps crashing, have deleted and reinstall multiple times with same issues.

One touch definition and reverse button wished

imsohighicanfli

This app has saved much time in conversation over the years. Adding a feature which enables ... 1) touching a word 2) proceeding to ask whether or not to open a new window(screen) for that diction 3) once opening that diction, offering an option to return to original screen via reverse button on top left ... Would help greatly. Keep doing the daily word.

Very very useful

Dewboy73

I don’t do many reviews but since this app has helped me numerous times with spellings, definitions, and the part of this app that has been especially useful, the thesaurus. I’ve first downloaded this app and paid for the full upgrade over 5 years ago and have nothing but praise for it. 5⭐️ ✌️??

Horrible updated interface + deleted review???

floamdaddy

Looks nice but the scrolling feature displaces the main screen area which is supremely annoying if you want to make comparisons within a full list of definitions or synonyms, etc., as your anchor point keeps shifting when the screen alternates between half and full views, which is triggered by any scrolling.

ONE FATAL FLAW

Clickadeedoda

The app is pretty good at doing what it says it does. But one very infuriating thing is when you have searched and found the information you wanted, if leave dictionary.com open and go to another app, when you come back, IT RELOADS and goes back to an empty search box. You lose what you have looked up So, multitasking? No. I did purchase the pro app. Pro also reloads if you leave and come back. This is very close to a deal breaker for me. Addendum: Where is the voice search function? I have the pro version which claims to have voice search. I can't locate it, anywhere. And yes, I have tried removing and then reinstalling the app.

Offline dictionary is broken

NinjaRunningWild

The offline dictionary is severely out-of-date, gives very incomplete definitions, & using it causes the app to not give definitions at all & then crash. Needs some work. ~ "Noticeably improved in version 7.x" : This app has improved markedly since I wrote my previous review (left below for posterity). Most of my qualms with the application have since been addressed, leaving me with very little to be non content with. My sole issue would only be the "tiles" UI display for the word of the day. A list, or option setting for a list, display would be far more straight-forward to navigate. They added a history, which is extremely useful, & the commonly requested back button to reverse through the user's recent series of definition lookups. Kudos to the dev team for adding the most complained about features. Honestly, this had become again quite a good dictionary, & I can again recommend it without needing to list stipulations. ~~~ "A mess" : I'm not really sure what compels developers to take a perfectly good app & ruin it in the name of "progress", but this app, which I would consider essential, has fallen prey to this tendency. The issues are numerous & this will surely be an incomplete list : - The interface is clumsy, requiring extra touches for what worked in fewer in the previous (5.x) version with no loss of clarity or ease of use. One eg is the "word of the day" which has adopted the dreadful "tiles" UI design style. The older version had a list. Nice, organized, & very clear-cut. Now, the order is nebulous & odd. There are many similar examples. - Ease of navigation is completely messed up. There's no back button, so if you say navigated to the word of the day, chose a synonym, were satisfied with your understanding & wanted to go back, there's no easy means by which to do so. This makes using the app cumbersome & aggravating. - As other reviewers have mentioned, you can't copy & paste into the search box. How such fundamental & clearly needed functionality could be left out is beyond belief. This will undoubtedly be a growing list. The 5.x version was a masterpiece is usability & usefulness. This, well, only has the latter. My upgrade was completely by accident. I had purposefully avoided upgrading for months due to looking at the new design & seeing the "storm clouds on the horizon" with this new version. Sadly I don't have a backup of the 5.x, & Apple/iOS has a bad policy on not letting users intentionally regress to an older version of an app (not other than via backup/restore in iTunes on a PC), so now I'm stuck with this wreck of an app. So, THIS? THIS... is progress? Hmph! A tip to developers : Change for its own sake is NOT progress nor an improvement. Write this down & tape it up in your cube.

The app crashes if hyperlinks to the words get touched.

s4mt6

The app crashes if hyperlinks to other words (ie. related vocabularies) get touched in the word description. It wasn’t like this before. Please fix this bug immediately.
