MAGICAL, BUT NOT A TRICK
Cardiio’s technology is based on cutting-edge research and science conducted at the MIT Media Lab. The measurement principles are the same as clinical pulse oximeters. Every time your heart beats, more blood rushes through the vessels in your face, causing them to expand. The increase in blood volume absorbs more light, resulting in a decrease in the amount of light reflected from your face. Using sophisticated software, your iPhone's camera can track these tiny variations in light that are invisible to the naked eye to calculate your heart rate.
ACCURACY
Studies have shown that our heart rate measurements are within 3 bpm of a clinical pulse oximeter when performed at rest in a well-lit environment (Poh et al., Optics Express 2010, Poh et al., IEEE Trans Biomed Eng 2011).
**IMPORTANT TIPS FOR BEST ACCURACY
• Look ahead and hold your phone 6 inches in front of your face
• Be in a well-lit area so your face is well illuminated.
• Make sure your face is clearly visible (e.g. no long hair covering your forehead etc.) so that it can be easily detected.
• Don’t have a bright background behind you (backlight) - it makes your face appear dark in contrast.
• Fold one arm across your chest and rest the other arm that’s holding your phone against it to provide support and reduce motion of the phone during measurement.
• Hold your phone steady and keep still during the measurement.

There’s often a poor signal or other reason it doesn’t work. There’s not much else useful about the app, sorry I paid for it!
It is very disappointing that you did not update the software to use the lens closest to the flashlight for multi-lens iPhones. It used to work great with my single-lens iPhone (we even purchased the in-app upgrade), but now, with my multi-lens iPhone 11 Pro, the app is useless crap! The light and the lens are too far away from each other to get an accurate measurement! The iPhone 11 Pro was released 1.5 years ago (that's when I bought it)! How much more time do you need to fix the problem ??????)

App is helping me record incidents of SVT. I’m on a heart monitor now, but this app gave a picture of what is going on. It’s not “official” but still a good picture.
This app helped me when I had afib, to track my rate. I have now been shocked back to a “normal” rate and can now monitor to assure I’m doing ok. Thanks
I downloaded about 7 different heart monitor/pulse checker apps on my phone. I uninstalled every other heart monitor except for this one. You'll understand what the differences are too...
Per other reviews, this app does not work with the iPhone 11 Pro. Such a waste.
Good App. I enjoy this app with workouts. Download if you don’t have program to do workouts.
