Classic Arcade Goodness

As other's have stated, this is a nice take on the classic game Rampart. You build up your defenses and then attack ships at sea. The build up portion of the game isn't as much fun as Rampart but it's close and captures the idea. It takes a little while to get the aiming down but works well enough after some practice. All-in-all a decent game that will largely appeal to fans of the original.

Suprised me.

I was quite skeptical on how well this game would play, but it's actually quite fun and addicting. It's true that the graphics are somewhat mediocre but it still plays really well. Unlike most tower defenses that are on the app store you get to be a part of the overall action by shooting the ships yourself along with the help of the towers you build, which fires at ships constantly. It is somewhat difficult even on easy, but that's probably because I'm not that good at controlling the crosshair. But overall it's a decent game with a lot of potential.

Nice spin on tower defense

Disclosure: I received a promotional code for this game. The Dev, Chad, described this game to me as being similar to Rampart. I must confess I thought Rampart was something completely different, so this game and game-style is very new and fresh to me. With that said, I have played probably 6-7 different TD games on the Appstore and I think this brings a refreshing element to the genre. I enjoy the medieval theme and think this game has a very good amount of polish. The opening screen is nice and bright with pleasing graphics, the music is a great selection that is perfect for this type of game, and overall you can tell the game was made with care and attention to detail. The tutorial is straightforward and helpful, and there are 3 different difficulty settings to choose from, so it should be accessible to everyone. I played Conquer mode on easy my first couple of times through but then went on to Medium so I could start building the roads. I like not having a set path but more of a free, open area that you can customize to your own liking or style. Good variety of enemies and weapons, and I find the game challenging. But the best aspect of the game imo is definitely the element of aiming. I think this is where Bastion differs from the other TD games I have played before. Usually you just place your units and worry about upgrading them, but with this, you have to actually aim and hit the ships to cause damage. Employs a good bit of strategy being that there are different kinds of enemy ships with various strengths and weaknesses. I'm going to keep playing this but after spending about an hour I am starting to really enjoy the game more, am getting a little better at aiming, and think I will take the plunge to try hard after a couple more games. Overall, I give it 4 stars. Nice casual pick up and play game, some sort of online achievement system would bump it up to 5.

This is a really good version of the PC game Rampart

MrMLK

This game is a lot like the old PC game Rampart. Very well implemented, good graphics, lots of fun to play. The latest version adds autosave which is a a must have for me. All it needs is some sort of minimap so you can see when new ships show up aand it will be a solid five star game.

Fun

This isn't your classic tower defense game which the App store is flooded with. Bastion allows you the same sort of strategy that other games in the genre have, like building placements and weapon placement, but the thing that separates this one is that you take control of the firing of your weapons (cannons). Rather than your cannon firing off when an enemy is in range, you aim your cannons towards the incoming ships, giving you the feel of a shooter game as well as a defense game. This makes the game loads more fun IMHO than the standard defense game where all you do is sit and watch, rather than take part in the action. It isn't a matter of just tapping on a ship to fire at either, you have to lead your shots to hit the target as the ship moves at different speeds and direction. This adds limitless more depth to the gameplay... Overall an A +++ game different enough to warrant a purchase...

Frustrating controls and monotonous gameplay

Has potential...

...but way too hard out of the gate and not enough funds to build or fortify. Save your money until they balance the gameplay a bit or include a novice mode or something. A neat game but more frustrating than fun.

A very interesting game

JakB56

Having never plays rampart, I had no idea why this game would be like. Admittedly, at first o thought this would be a game that I was gonna delete within minutes but i was wrong. At first, the game is really hard but after you get used to it, it's a really great retro style game! The sound are really cool and the graphics are a fittin retro. Whether you're looking for a cheap game that can be played in short bursts or one which has a lot of depth and game time in it, thi is definitely a good choice *TIPS* 1. on easy mode, build towers/castles as far from each other as possible. Amkes them harder targets for the enemy 2. Hold down the shoot button, it will bring muh better results than button mashing and it's easier too

Nice surprise

TheSporkWithin

I wasn't expecting much from this game as I'm generally not a fan of the defense genre but I was quite pleasantly surprised. It has some interesting puzzle and action elements mixed in which really keeps things engaging. The graphics are a bit crude, but I think it's a design choice rather than a flaw. Ultimately, this game is worth a shot even if you don't favor the tower defense genre. It brings a more skill-based game than what you may be used to.

Cool Castle Def Game

DoubleTime

Decent little game. The graphics aren't all that stylish and don't really appeal to me, but the gameplay is decent. For the price, it's worth the grab.
