Nice spin on tower defense – Cannon Siege Review

Disclosure: I received a promotional code for this game. The Dev, Chad, described this game to me as being similar to Rampart. I must confess I thought Rampart was something completely different, so this game and game-style is very new and fresh to me. With that said, I have played probably 6-7 different TD games on the Appstore and I think this brings a refreshing element to the genre. I enjoy the medieval theme and think this game has a very good amount of polish. The opening screen is nice and bright with pleasing graphics, the music is a great selection that is perfect for this type of game, and overall you can tell the game was made with care and attention to detail. The tutorial is straightforward and helpful, and there are 3 different difficulty settings to choose from, so it should be accessible to everyone. I played Conquer mode on easy my first couple of times through but then went on to Medium so I could start building the roads. I like not having a set path but more of a free, open area that you can customize to your own liking or style. Good variety of enemies and weapons, and I find the game challenging. But the best aspect of the game imo is definitely the element of aiming. I think this is where Bastion differs from the other TD games I have played before. Usually you just place your units and worry about upgrading them, but with this, you have to actually aim and hit the ships to cause damage. Employs a good bit of strategy being that there are different kinds of enemy ships with various strengths and weaknesses. I'm going to keep playing this but after spending about an hour I am starting to really enjoy the game more, am getting a little better at aiming, and think I will take the plunge to try hard after a couple more games. Overall, I give it 4 stars. Nice casual pick up and play game, some sort of online achievement system would bump it up to 5.
