Failing With Age

Jesse Schoff

Bookmobile used to be the best. Since the iPhone X came out, it's become abnoxious to use. If you pause the player, then lock the phone, the audiobook will start playing again. This happens over and over until you manually kill the app. Really disappointed that the devs haven't updated this app in years, functionally or aesthetically. It's really showing its age. The UI is really bad, it's clear there was no designer involved, and the podcast functionality leaves a lot to be desired. App developers: please put in the work instead of coasting. I'm a developer myself, and am tempted to take things from where you left off since you seem to have lost motivation. So many big reports and no acknowledgment on your website and Jo updates for half a year. You can do better.

This is the only app I use for audiobooks. It automatically bookmarks when you stop playing, but you can also manually bookmark (something you can’t do in iBooks.) I can easily add books I download from my local library either by syncing through iTunes or from my onedrive folders. Controls are easy to navigate. It works well with my car controls - other apps skip forward entire sections instead of by seconds in my car. By far my favorite audiobook app.

Wonderful

I drive for a living and listen to at least 8 hrs of audiobooks a day using an iPhone and Bose noise cancelling earbuds (wired). In 4 years now the app has worked perfectly and is easy to use for a 70 year old. I used to hate the complicated, time consuming process getting books into my iPhone. BOOKMOBILE solved that, with the WIFI transfer the process is so quick and easy! Thank you Freshmowed.

Tricky, but it does what I need it to.

The UI is sort of clumsy. Definitely cumbersome and harder to navigate than it has to be get the hang of (if you *have* to utilize a 4+ screen app introduction to explain how your app works...yeesh). Ok I'm done complaining about the way the app looks. While the onboarding process for iTunes files is more layered than expected, I have an unpredented level of control of the names, authors, and cover art, and I appreciate the heck out of that. BUT ALSO...this does exactly what I need it to do, and does it well. My requirements were an unobtrusive way to listen to audiobooks with better granularity than iBooks, and with greater openness than the Audible app. Those are not my favorite apps to use, period. This picks up the massive gaps in control than those leave, but I think a more modern (and can I ask for clever?) user interface would go a long way to improving an otherwise very useful app. NOTE: I have never once used the podcast features of this app. There are simply too many very excellently executed options (see Overcast, Castro, Casts) to choose from.

The app works good. The bookmarks are in confusion. Everything I stop pause or anything the app places a bookmark. No good

Can’t live without it

AndreaJ2013

I’ve been using this app since 2014. I listen to about 150 audiobooks a year all using this app Bookmobile. I’ve already written a review, but just wanted to say after not having my iPad for 2 days and having to use iTunes and my Android phone to listen to audiobooks...I can’t live without this app. I have had a few temporary problems here and there over the years...mainly when I had been using an iPad 2, but no other apps come close to what this app can do. Love it!

Used to love it — now it’s unusable

amazondoc

I used to love this app, and I still think it’s got the best features of any audiobook reader. But since the introduction of iOS 11, it’s unusable with aax books (books from Audible). It’s unstable, constantly forgets where you stopped listening, and so on. If the creators would get busy and issue a stability fix, I’d be very happy!

Great app, great features

Bookmark features here are super useful. Great customizations without a lot of complication.

Fine otherwise but track order often wrong

spetsnaz26

I spent much time trying to figure out the logic used to order the tracks. I've got two audio books so far that the tracks are named in sequence and ordered correctly by name in Windows explorer but once Imported assumed an incomprehensible order. I had to manually reorder one of them but another one had simply too many tracks. Don't know what logic is but it's flawed. I never had any such problem with my Android phone running work audio books.

The ability to add audiobooks directly from the web via MP3’s/AAC/zip files, ability to remap my car “previous track” button to rewind mode of x amount of seconds, and the 100% flawless tracking of previous positions make this app the best for listening to audiobooks.
