Terrible interface on ipad version

Rjb111

I've been playing this for a week and I finally deleted it out of frustration. Sometimes the pieces move and shoot and sometimes they don't. And then sometimes later in a turn they do move and shoot. With the interface one is supposed to touch the screen and move around the playing. Sometimes it works and other times it jumps to a another part of the battle field. Drives me crazy. I would bet that computer versions of the game, with a mouse, are probably great.

Great game, needs to be updated for 64 bit hardware

David A.R.

This is a fine mix of old school tactical wargame and touch based gameplay. It reminds me of the old Microsoft Close Combat game from the late 90’s, but with a little bit broader scope and a simpler morale system. It is not cheap by iPad game standards, but I have gotten many hours out of it. I’ve seen other reviews complaining that Allied armor is too weak. The truth is that it *was* that weak and the game is an accurate reflection of what Allied warfighters had to cope with in the real world (be glad that wasn’t you). You can win these battles with tactics: don’t expect to go head to head with late war panzers. Use greater numbers, crossfire, and mobility (Hellcat tank destroyers are great for this). Use artillery, airstrikes, and infantry ambushes. Wreck their morale by hitting them over and over (even if you can’t penetrate the frontal armor) so they panic, retreat, and expose their rear armor. Then chase them down and kill them at short range. I’ve bought most of the additional campaigns; now that there is a give me everything option, I’d recommend that if you think you will keep playing this. Update: This game has not been updated recently and has not been recompiled to 64 bit. That means that, in an update probably sometime soon, it will no longer run on iPads that have been updated to the newest version of iOS. It will probably be booted out of the app store. That would be a real shame. I hope Slitherine does the work to keep this game running on current hardware.

Serious UI issues

Yikesx3

I really want to like this game, it should be right up my alley. But it has some pretty serious UI problems and suffers from a lack of polish. Basic questions go unanswered like "Which of my units can still attack on this turn?" and "What does that tiny icon mean?" For a game named Battle Academy, it does a poor job of teaching what's going on. Save your money, there are better strategy games out there.

Bought everything now got nothing

Parents beware

I bought this game along with every single expansion pack...that was a few years ago. Now when I open it, I've got nothing but the basics. How do I get my purchases back? No tab for customer support, nothing.

iOS 11

Warcats

I contacted Slitherine and they are not planning on updating the awesome Battle Academy and other games based on the same engine such as Pike and Shot,Battle Academy 2 and the immensely satisfying Hell. This broke my heart because as a serious war gamer, I could endlessly play forever these games on the best tablet made, the iPad. I may have to never update one of my iPads. Engaging turn based combat was elegantly at your fingertips with the new tablets. I shall miss this along with the award winning X-com. Now a lot of people won't be happy. What's an iPad gamer to do?

Overall Great

smj58501

Overall, I really loved playing this game. There were points of frustration (e.g. Allied armor was inferior to German... but not THAT inferior), but overall this was an enjoyable game. I use the past tense because now that I upgraded to iOS 11, 32-bit is no longer supported. The designer does not plan to upgrade to 64 due to expense either. That is too bad... this is a game that never gets old. I can only hope they will design a new game very similar to this one in 64 bit (they do have other games in 64 now)

Very good historical game but not working on iOS11

The game needs to be updated for 64 bit processing with IOS11. Once updated, I will raise by rating. This is a realistic game engine of WWII battles. I can’t wait for Slitherine to update this App for iOS11

Update to iOS 11
