Great game, needs to be updated for 64 bit hardware – Battle Academy Review

This is a fine mix of old school tactical wargame and touch based gameplay. It reminds me of the old Microsoft Close Combat game from the late 90’s, but with a little bit broader scope and a simpler morale system. It is not cheap by iPad game standards, but I have gotten many hours out of it. I’ve seen other reviews complaining that Allied armor is too weak. The truth is that it *was* that weak and the game is an accurate reflection of what Allied warfighters had to cope with in the real world (be glad that wasn’t you). You can win these battles with tactics: don’t expect to go head to head with late war panzers. Use greater numbers, crossfire, and mobility (Hellcat tank destroyers are great for this). Use artillery, airstrikes, and infantry ambushes. Wreck their morale by hitting them over and over (even if you can’t penetrate the frontal armor) so they panic, retreat, and expose their rear armor. Then chase them down and kill them at short range. I’ve bought most of the additional campaigns; now that there is a give me everything option, I’d recommend that if you think you will keep playing this. Update: This game has not been updated recently and has not been recompiled to 64 bit. That means that, in an update probably sometime soon, it will no longer run on iPads that have been updated to the newest version of iOS. It will probably be booted out of the app store. That would be a real shame. I hope Slitherine does the work to keep this game running on current hardware.
