Great Coach - App is WIP

To be clear this is a review of the Avatar Nutrition App and not a review of the Avatar Nutrition’s macro sets/programming. First off, love the integration of my macros straight into the app without me having to enter so much more than my log info for the PC web-based program. This makes life simple and streamlines an otherwise tedious process. The app, upon opening, is very tastefully put together. A large heads up display that gives you all you need at a glance. I think the team did a very good job at simplifying the macro tracking process by only putting so much on the main screen. This allows for seamless toggling between the other functions and without the need to open menus upon menus upon sub-menus and so on. The apps food base does not currently present any issues for me. But, there is a minor... maybe not so minor issue. The very purpose of this app is to allow me to track my macros and keep me accountable to my goals. However, the issue I am having is that whenever I move food items from the “Favorites” option to what I’m consuming for the day, “Food Eaten”, it does not remain tracked after closing the app. So, after addition of food it does not save the food or keep the macros deducted from the running totals - this defeats the purpose of the app. I have tried numerous ways of resolving the error and yet it remains. What I would like to see: an update to correct the malfunction stated above, more options on how to input food/create recipes, and additional ways to customize/personalize inputs. A pretty big disappointment for me, as well as my SO, was the lack of the ability to input weight/BF%/adherence and essentially be able to do everything that’s to be on done on the computer in the app. I know this is the first run but I hope to see more!

I know it just came out but I hope there are some fixes. I scan a barcode and it gives me the macros for a serving, I change it to 1.5 or 2 and it doesn't update. I enter it manually and it says "invalid please input a number" I would also like to see the macros i have eaten, not just what I have left. I'm going back to MyMacros+ now until hopefully make some changes.

Love Avatar but the app needs work
MP1186

I love what Avatar is doing to help people and I think their program is amazing. I know this is the first release of the food tracking so there are going to be some bugs but I would like to make a few suggestions. 1) be able to switch days and copy foods from day to day. 2) ability to track food according to meal. 3) have the foods show more precise macros for a food. ie instead of putting zero when it should be 0.4. All these rounding errors can cause major fluctuations at the end of the day. 4) ability to favorite a food even after you have entered it.

Great start
ARRRGGG!

Great start for Avatar and their tracking app. Visually appealing and easy to use. I agree with another review where a widget would be awesome! Also, after adding a food you can make an edit, however you are unable to edit the macros themselves. You can only edit the name and serving size. Please make this an option after the food has been added to our daily meals. I hate to have to erase and re-enter.

Avatar is life changing
Mateo123

Been a member since last August and have been able to reverse diet and increase my calories by 800. Used to track on my own and had success but avatar has made tracking my macros so much easier. This app is version 1 so it’s not perfect but can’t wait to what Avatar has in store for the future updates!

I know this is a completely new app. Is it supposed to sync with my profile? It’s not. And my added foods keep disappearing.

Perfection

They did so great with this app! Thanks avatar!! Changing the world!

Not ready yet
Macro addict

Would like to start this review with saying this is purely a review of the new beta app. Avatar Nutrition itself is 6/5 stars. Currently, the app looks very clean/ neat and simple to use. However, when actually entering food, the servings get all messed up. Adding something to your favorites list doesn’t really do much because once you try log it it doesn’t transfer over. It doesn’t separate meals and doesn’t seem to have a recipe function (adding multiple ingredients and combining macros for each ingredient and dividing or multiplying by serving size) which is inconvenient at best. I found it very challenging to actually log food on it just trying to enter 10 oz potatoes and 5 oz chicken. When I added the food as 1oz potato and then changed servings to 10 it appeared as if it were like 40 oz of potatoes instead. I did it a few times and it didn’t seem to be human error. Further more, the app only allows you to log that day. Can’t see the past or future as far as I can tell. Which is a big disappointment since I plan my meals out the night before. I also would like a function to see your friends foods. As my girlfriend and my brother use this service and we eat together it makes it easy to copy a meal. Plus I can check to see if my little brother is keeping up with his macros! Lastly, I would like this to incorporate the whole avatar service. With including weekly weigh ins, adjusting daily/weekly macros and preferences, and changing your goal. Again, nothing but love for the avatar team and amount of help and knowledge I have received but until the above issues are addressed I will have to continue to use MyMacros+

Off to a good start

Having the exact same issues as Liquidsnake420. App has only been released for a day so I’m sure we will see updates rolling out. One thing I would love to see is the ability to add food in a customized meal by meal basis (meal 1, pre workout, post workout, meal 2, etc) and a macro tally for each meal. For an initial release, the food database is much better than expected!

Great beta app
adidas5402

I have been with avatar nutrition for well over a year. Using only their web interface. I am very impressed with their customer service as well as with their macro calculations. I went from 277 lbs to 211 on the program. I do love the potential this app has. Some things I would like to see added/changed are: The ability to go forward and back in dates in the main food log The meals to be separated in some way in the main food log There is a “common foods” under search but I’m not sure if that’s my common foods or common foods with the search I put in. Currently there is nothing until I perform I search so I assume the latter. I’d like to see a my common foods more so than “my favorites”. In the search query, it gets really frustrating if I misspell something then go back to edit it and have to retype the whole search again. On the phone it seems the app is a little bigger than the screen of the phone... so I have to scroll down in the app then scroll down on the food log to see the rest of my log. Just seems unnecessary to have to scroll twice. Then of course I’m sure you are working on adding weight tracking to the app and all the other fun stuff that is currently on the website. Please please please don’t let this review detract you from downloading this app though. This is the first release and I KNOW will only get better and will absolutely be the best tracker on the market.
