90% of a fantastic game

mofolotopo

Like other people who have posted reviews, I'm pretty irritated by some of the shortcomings of this game. If the game just sucked, that would be one thing. The real problem is that you can see that it's tantalizingly close to being a fantastic, fun game. So much so that I keep playing it despite these fundamental problems, which means they just have that many more opportunities to piss me off. Just a few: -The latest update breaks the game so it won't start. I got it to start by deleting and reinstalling, but now all of my achievements are gone. -As others have mentioned, you often spawn on planets that are missing critical resources, making the game unwinnable. -Advisors pop up to tell you about food shortages and requests for trade WAY too often, covering the part of the screen where you can actually see the resources you have. -There is almost no tutorial. The designers have said that this is intentional, that they tried to design a game that doesn't NEED a tutorial. That's a great goal, but they failed miserably. There are tons of resources that you don't have any information on until you discover them by accident; even the entries in the in-game reference are blank. -They seem not to have encountered the fact that farming trees and fertilizer are things real people do. To reiterate my above statement, I wouldn't care so much about these critical failings if it weren't for the fact that I can see an absolutely fantastic little game here that didn't quite make it. If these issues were patched, this might literally be my favorite iOS game for years to come.

Crashes

What a rip off after paying for the full version the game just crashes into opening.

Awesome game. Way too buggy

ProjectRZ

Constant, constant, crashes. My game crashes all the time. Sometimes it won't even start up again unless I delete it and reinstall it. Fun game and takes a lot of planning skill to master but I can't get passed all the crashing.

Brilliant game - but latest update crashes !

Great Game

I play this game whenever i have free time during the day. It's a fun game to pass the time. It's simple but also have a lot of strategy and depth to it. Worth the price in my opinion. All it needs is local multiplayer, that would be great.

Amazing App with a few flaws

I have both this game on both my android device and on my iPhone. I've purchased the full game to support the developer because it's that great of a game- I've never seen a 4x done well on any platform outside of PC and I think this is one of the best- but it does have room to improve. The biggest issue I see with the game is the combat system. While there may be possibilities I haven't reached yet in the game (I haven't yet filled my encyclopedia, but I've come close), I've found no way to take over enemy planets. Only being able to destroy other planets results in a player being stranded by distance when warring with and opponent. If planets are locked in when someone first inhabits it, a player can be permanently crippled hours into a game by decisions they made in the first 30 minutes (whether to expand early or not). That is a game design issue, but there are some easily fixable problems as well: 1) Resource distribution is a bit of an issue. This is further compounded by the combat issue mentioned above; if I wasn't lucky enough to get onto a planet with x resource, I'm permanently locked out of the production cycle for y. 2) It's really hard to track production across larger scale civilizations. I don't know if I'm producing enough food for a larger population, especially if I have a surplus. This could be easily resolved by a "Production" screen, showing Production per Cycle, Consumption per Cycle and trends for each resource, but that currently isn't included. 3) Lastly, the Ascension/Research system is a bit of a mess. While I think the ascension side is pretty logical and makes sense, the research side is less so. While I understand the desire to not give players game breaking skill combos early in a game, this could be accomplished by a more logical and clear race-based skill tree. I don't mean to bash the game for a review- I love it enough to write as much as I have, but I'd love to see improvements. Cheers!
