Unplayable update
Ds fb

Absolutely love this game but the most recent update makes the app sluggish and the icons too small to read. The cards have also been redesigned so it is distractingly hard to play. Please bring back the old version, before the major change this app would have earned a 5 star rating now I’m looking for a new game to play.

New interface is terrible
Ethan Witkovsky

This is one of my favorite games. I like the new cards. I can’t play with the updated interface, please change it back!

WTH?

The most recent update is glitchy and terrible. I no longer enjoy playing this game on my phone.

Great game! Big miss on latest update
Quixotism22

First, the game is great! This app does an excellent job of recreating the gameplay. AI is pretty good overall too. (I think other people are wrong about incorrect scores, or that has been fixed.) HOWEVER, the latest update (v2.0.0) is a BIG MISS and significantly worsens the experience: - Gameplay and cards are TOO SMALL. - Cards and resource requirements are too small. I can hardly read them on my iPad Air. Nearly impossible to read the upgrades allowed on cards. Graphics and resources are even kind of pixelated. - CARD NAMES are no longer shown! This is important, because you can only build one of each card. Plus it’s critical to get to know the game and what to call things. Otherwise it’s just pictures. How would I talk about the game if I didn’t know “Caravansary,” “Foundry” etc.? Yes I know you can click-hold to see card name but this is not enough. - Game Play is TOO SLOW. There’s this annoying lag as you drag cards and they are put into the center. Just let us play the game! Previous version is much quicker.

I would pay again to have the original back
Unimpressed

7 Wonders has been one of my favorite board games on the iPhone for almost two years. It was easy to play on a small screen and the icons and graphics facilitated gameplay. This new version is a terrible mess. The graphics look terrible and the cards are a hindrance to game play instead of helping. This may be the worst update for a iPhone app I’ve ever seen. Please cut your losses and bring back the original.

Very disappointed with the new version

The new version does not feel like the right direction for this app. The new design feels very focused for the “big screen”. There is so much wasted real estate.

New update ruined a great app

The old app was one of my favorites, great adaptation of a fun card game. Great graphics and user interaction. New update looks and feels like an app that was thrown together in a few weeks.

Why did they try to fix a good thing?
JLane11

I rarely leave written app reviews, but this is the only way I know of communicating with the app developers - please hear me out! This game, in general, is a five star game. I love the tabletop (physical) version of it, and I used to love the digital (app) version just prior to this - so much so that I would play it incessantly while waiting for an appointment, looking to kill time, anywhere I could. It was quick and it was addictive. The “new” edition is like taking 16 steps backward. Some things, like the new cards and leaders associated with the 2020 version of the game, are great. But the graphics now feel like they’re from Windows 95, or as if it were one of the first games to come out when the App Store originally began. I hate to say that, because the shift from the previous version is *so* dramatic in all respects that game devs must have really worked hard to go in a completely new direction. And I tried to believe it was intentional, like a kind of nostalgia graphics feel from the 1990’s. But after giving it a few playthroughs, I unfortunately have to say they may have killed the golden goose, downgraded an incredibly playable game, and made it slower and harder to play. In particular: - The new interface is maybe 20% as stimulating as the previous version. It is also visibly darker in all respects. It even has the “widescreen-style” bars at top and bottom - why reduce playable space? The last version felt lighter and more open, which made it a more satisfying and relaxing play. - The icons are now nearly impossible to read for anyone with standard vision. This isn’t just a poor UX/UI issue, it’s now also an accessibility issue. - The animations are not as clean - I can see what they might have been trying to do, but the old version animations didn’t need fixing (from a user perspective) - And on the whole, the graphics look like they are 64- or 128-bit circa Windows 95, or maybe Windows 2000/XP. It’s throwback, but unintentional. Why did they try to fix a thing that didn’t need fixing? Couldn’t they have invested these resources in creating a digital version of 7 Wonders: Armada or similar - which they could then actually sell as an in-app purchase (to generate more revenue AND more customer satisfaction), rather than revamping something that needed no revamping (and which not only doesn’t generate revenue for them, but also actively decreases user engagement - see other comments)? I’m so confused and disappointed, and I desperately want the last app back - at this point, it will seem like an upgrade, so it can be done strategically! I’m also happy to amend this review in full if you would PLEASE reverse this edition change. If that doesn’t happen, truth be told, I’ll probably delete this app - not fun to play in its current state, graphics are a major downgrade in all respects, and Catan, Ticket to Ride, and others are just as fun.

Don’t Update to New Graphics
Ralkain

Title says it all, the old graphics and game play are far superior.
