Paid decent app turned into subscription crippleware

OriginalGrumpyOldMan

UPDATE: after running into issues following the devs’ reply below, I contacted them directly. Issue hasn’t really been fixed as such but at least most of the functionality CAN be recovered: Go to Settings -> “Premium” even if you do NOT (want to) subscribe -> almost at the bottom, left is a tiny Restore Purchase link -> click & IGNORE PURCHASE ERROR MESSAGE(!): (re)enabling more than one filter should now work anyway. Thanks to Cloud Sync (enabled by default) seems like all my connected devices have then been updated as well. Rating updated now - under the assumption that filter updates will continue to be at least included once in a while with App updates... ====== Original Review ====== I have been a paying supporter since 2015, had no issue paying for the new version in 2018, and would have happily continued with paid upgrades! But as I just installed it on a new device, I find there is no “Restore Purchase” option anywhere, and instead this has been turned into yet another endless-payments “freemium” piece of crippleware! <SNIP rant-y bit> If you want constant payments for constant filter updates (which I’m not interested in), maybe, but disabling existing paid functionality deserves a ZERO Star rating. But the cherry on this {bleep}pie is the unwanted pop-up in my (ex) paid app ASKING ME to give you this review.

Subscription is now a thing, not good!

tkukoc

So be a loyal user, but ah nope changing to subscription based service. Straight up nonsense! And no it doesn’t allow for previous purchase to carry over. Contact the dev, nope doesn’t do anything either. Time to move on to other apps. It’s a content blocker, plenty out there!

Not so hot

pjspopIII

Very bad, advertising as free, but sneaks in a charge later.

Best content blocker out there

Sam_Marcus

Tried almost all of them, this is my favorite. Such a polished app. Amazing developer, too! Super nice & responsive. thank you!! ????

Macstories lead me

Otakumons

Just thanks to Fredrico at macstories as well as the team for 1Blocker it does what it needs to and does it well as well was constantly being updated

Does exactly what it says

ZombiezExist

Eliminates ads and website widgets. Improves website load times as well as improved scrolling on websites that are constantly loading new ads (no jumping between ads). Will definitely continue to support the individual or team developing this excellent product.

This two man Dev team has slithered in a subscription without so much as a heads up in the update. Thanks for that.

Why buy?

Disabled RN

Can’t see how much we’ll it works unless you buy or start the “free trial” with commitment to pay. Done getting junk apps with great claims that do not work as promised or cause problems.

An ad is an ad

MikeHatesEverything

Update: Thank you for making the ad in your app appear less frequently. It’s a good start. If the main reason for the ad is to remind customers to check for app updates, why does the ad only mention cloud-based rules? It states nothing about the app itself possibly being outdated, so how are users to know they should check for that based on the current ad? Also, why do you feel that customers who have already paid need to be reminded every 45 days that you offer “alternative solutions” (cloud updates)? Please reconsider your decision. You are a small indie developer, and while I hope you can continue to release timely app updates and keep your cloud updates server continuously available, should anything prevent you from doing so, every single customer will eventually be forced to dismiss ads in the ad-blocking app they are paying for until the problem is resolved. That will make a bad situation worse. Please reconsider. Perhaps implement a system that operates similar to entering incorrect Passcodes on an iPhone, in which each time a user dismisses the ad, the longer it will be before it is displayed again. That will allow for occasional reminders while reducing the likelihood of having 1Blocker labeled “nagware” by unreasonable users like me. ;-) - - - - - * It’s been nearly six months since you stated you would remove the ads built right into your app. * * Please don’t force paying customers to “Dismiss” ads in your app. I bought 1Blocker to block annoying ads, not to see more of them. *
