Armchair GM's Rejoice – Football Guv'nor Review

Having played Soccer Manager, MYFC and World Football Manager 2009, this one is by far my favorite. The interface is clean, logical and well set up. Kudos on the tips that are unobtrusively displayed while world events and matches are simulated. They are really helpful and allow you to actually learn the game. All the basics of a GM are well covered - financial management, player development, transfers, scouting, and game day. The game day management is much better than the other football sims - as the match progresses you can see how your players are doing (1-10), how fatigued they are, and you can watch a running commentary. Another screen shows on game day shows you ongiong possession, territory, shots, and other useful information. You can pause anytime to make substitutions, change your teams' agression, formation, and attack/defense. For example, if you're behind and need a goal, pause the game, ramp up your attack and agression, change your formation to sub in an attacker and try to get that last minute goal. The email system is another great feature - game events are communicated to you via email in an interface much like the iphone's own email system - you can even swipe to delete. Finally, I really like the fact that there is a hidden stat for players called form. Very skilled players who aren't on form may underperform. You can indirectly guage by gameplay performance, your scouts will only recommend players with good form, and you can improve form through training. I could go on, but really if you are interested in GM games at all, this one is currently the best.
