Difficult to add rare birds to life list – Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab Review

I keep having trouble adding migrating or rare birds to my life list because they don’t show up in the list of birds generated by the bird ID feature. I live in Washington State and have seen a Snowy Owl, Snow Geese, and Tundra Swans, but they don’t show up in searches. Sometimes the bird is too far away to get a good photo, especially with my phone, so I can’t use the photo ID option. If I Explore Birds I can find them and the range shows it as possible in my area, but I can’t add a bird to my list unless it turns up in a search through the bird ID or photo ID. Also, I can’t add birds from over 20 years ago with an accurate date because it only gives you the last 20 years to select from.
