It’s garbage now. Used to be fantastic. – Burner: Second Phone Number Review

It was handy to use Burner to create a temporary phone number for one reason or another. Marketer was giving out coupons and required you cell number. Potential job interview but went through a disreputable recruiter. That sort of thing. Buy 3 credits, create a burner and let it expire in a few days when you’re done. Very convenient. But now they’ve ruined it. I would give it zero stars if I could. First the app started glitching. Asking for me to re-authorize it with a text message every minute or so. Then they took my money and didn’t give me the credits, wouldn’t create a new burner, reported server problems whenever I tried to report the problem. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Immediately after reinstall I was presented with a $10/month subscription prompt and no way to dismiss it. Force quitting the app and relaunching got me past the prompt and into the setup screens and then I finally got to the point where I could buy credit and set up a burner… except that the only non-subscription option is now 8 credits for 30 days - $5 bucks instead of $2 bucks. Not quick, easy, or cheap anymore. No more simple sms or quickie burner phone number options, and a flood of popups pushing the $10/month plan if you try to select even that crummy one-time prepay plan. Heck with this. Burner was quick and easy and cheap and not annoying. Now it’s none of the above. There are other options for the same type of service. A few months ago they were just a little more of a hassle than Burner. But now Burner’s the worst of the bunch.
