Works well for me, one minor niggle – Iriun Webcam for PC and Mac Review

Interesting to read some of these reviews that seem so disconnected to my experience. One of them complains about the low resolution from a wifi connection and the wish to be able to use this tethered. On my old Mac, with the phone tethered and the Iriun software running, I open Quicktime, click “New Movie Recording”, choose Iriun Webcam as the source and I’m good to go at resolutions much better than over wifi. AFAIK this may be the only free webcam app that lets you record in full HD (1080p), so for the price I shouldn’t complain but will anyway (sorry!): It seems you can only record at 1080p when the Quality setting is “Maximum” which means the file is saved as ProRes 422 (at least that’s how it works in Quicktime). That’s great except one minute of recording uses a gigabyte of disk space! It would be fantastic if you could record 1080p at the “High” setting on Quicktime which would use the H.264 codec and save a lot of space. Setting Quicktime to “High” forces the resolution from Iriun down to 720p. I would definitely pay a few bucks to unlock 1080p/H.264. All in all, a nice and simple app that seems to work fine (on Macs at least!). If you can spare the disk space, your phone can now shoot very high quality video direct to your computer while also using your computer monitor as a viewfinder.
