Highlighting won’t stick – Google Play Books & Audiobooks Review

I’ve tried deleting and re-downloading both books and the app. Syncing is enabled, and yet when I highlight something, it often won’t become visibly highlighted, or the highlight will disappear after I move to another page and come back.
