Solid platformer – Super Bob - Run, Jump & Shoot Review

I enjoy a good platformer. This Free version of "Super Bob" harkens back to stuff I remember from the early 90's on the PC like Commander Keene but more so Jill of the Jungle. In this version of the game you get to go through 6 of the 33 levels that are in the paid version. The platforming is not just about avoiding obstacles and enemies, you can throw a football at some enemies but more importantly this game seems to be a balance of collecting jems to increase your score while still managing to reach the end of the level before the timer is up. The controls are simple. Move left & right (and you can backtrack), jump and throw a football. The Jumping is nice because it goes pretty high if you hold the button down or very short if you just tap it or hold it a short time. This version ran nicely as a background app, as I can't always finish a level of something in one sitting. So I could easily switch to something else, put my iPhone 4S into sleep mode, or whatever and then come back to it hours later. Not all games work great doing this. I'm going to go ahead and get and play the full version. This is a pretty decent game and I think I'd enjoy the challenge of finishing it as well as replaying levels to try and get better scores. The negatives? This free version has just one song that loops over and over. It's up beat and not so bad for a while but at times I turned the volume down. Also the full version shows a shootemup style level. It would have been nice to test that here. Beyond that, it's a solid game. No crashes or any such stuff for me.
