Great game with much potential – Realm of Alters - CCG Review

This is a great game but has room for improvement. Gameplay The gameplay is very akin to games like hearthstone and yet successfully establishes how different it is from other games. The mana system is well implemented despite there being different mana types. If made correctly, like the sample “goon” deck given to for free, decks with multiple mana types won’t be dominated by decks made with only one mana type. The shield points, which gives the player a card after every hit taken, also works very well and adds complexity to the combat and forces players to think carefully about their resources. Resources are very important in this game. I’ve experienced games that went like this: The other player would use all their cards in a turn or two to dominate the board and get my shields down, but because I kept my resource consumption low I was able to turn the game around and win. I love this about the game and makes winning very satisfactory. What the game needs I’ve played this game since the release and have reached rank 10 and still find making my own custom deck difficult. Obtaining card packs in this game is too tedious. I enjoy multiplayer but I think this game would very much benefit from having a campaign that rewards players with card packs or money to buy card packs. So far I’ve come across at least 3 players who maybe have bought packs or have gotten lucky and have destroyed me with their own custom deck. If the game had a campaign I would love to be able to play it offline as well. I also love the character designs and hope that they’re given backstories in a campaign. There are a few bugs but I am sure they are to be fixed as this game is very new. Cards also have slight grammatical errors that needs to be fixed. The Verdict 4/5 Despite the gameplay being very fun, the game is very basic right now, currently only consisting of multiplayer. Custom decks are difficult to build and this cause players to only play with sample decks. This game desperately needs events(which I’m sure are to come) and a campaign that rewards players with packs or money to get them invested in the game.
