3 or a “C” for “Could be Better” – Realm of Alters - CCG Review

From what I could get to of the game, the story seemed interesting, and the overall gameplay similar to Magic the Gathering. Also it was pretty easy to get fairly decent cards without paying for them (or so it seemed). My reason for giving this game a 3 star/C rating is because of the energy system, battle connection, and game crashing... First, I understand that part of the reason for the energy limit is so that people don’t play the game 24/7. However 20 energy for 1 battle? Really? That means on average people can play 5 battles in one hour, and then wait about 8hrs to get a full bar to play another 5 games as it takes 5 minutes to get 1 energy (which sadly is very common)... To me, that makes no sense; unless the goal is to have everyone play either at night or in the morning. To me it would make more sense to have battles cost at most 5 energy, OR have it take 30 seconds to a minute to refill 1 energy; so at most people are waiting 20 minutes to play the next battle. Secondly, the battle connection is very spotty and you have no idea when you game will connect, especially on the PvP. Thirdly, and this comes back to both the energy problem and battle connection... the game crashes A LOT; even on low energy/game mode. This is a problem because if the game crashes and you’re trying to play a battle in story mode, you INSTANTLY lose the 20 energy that it costs to do the battle, with no refund... just because the game mechanic is set to have you lose the energy because you “quit” the battle. NOT okay. I can understand that happen if you actually hit the button that says “Quit Game/Battle”, but for that to happen regardless? Uh huh. And if the game crashes while waiting to reconnect with another player? Good luck connecting to that battle. I tried doing this, and walked away from my iPad to do other things while I waited. 15-20 minutes later? Still not connected and no way back to the main screen without closing the app. This game certainly has potential... but until these things are fixed I’m saying farewell to this game.
