Oh. My. Freaking heck. – Lionsgate VIP Review

I need to write this to say that whoever is running Lionsgate's digital department seems monstrously incompetent and uncaring for the consumer. And it's not just because of this app. It's just part of a larger mindbending trend. First off - their codes that come with blurays recently do not consistently redeem in the same services. Not every lionsgate digital copy will redeem in iTunes. Don't know until you buy the movie and try though! They also don't join in with MoviesAnywhere, so your collection is chopped and divided no matter what. Second - Midsommar. Freaking Midsommar. A great movie that only has its director's cut available in iTunes. Passable for me because I use iTunes (but I also prefer physical media). Why isn't that director's cut in 4k like the shorter cut? Dunno! Want the director's commentary for Midsommar? That's an Amazon exclusive! Gotta buy it again! For your Amazon library! No but thank you! Still not MoviesAnywhere compatible which would make this much more a non-issue. Third - High Life. Great movie! New release. No extras in iTunes. No idea why. The Blu-ray has them. No discernible reason. But finally - This freaking app. That is required to redeem John wick 3 because (internet search helped me find out) they shut down the option to redeem that code without this app on the day of the movie's video release. So the instructions it came with are invalidated and no clarification in the website they direct you to. Download the app. Refuse to enable the location settings (holy what???), fiddle with the camera for six minutes trying to scan their hologram until you realize it only works without the flashlight they turned on for you. Then redeem. Whew. Finally redeemed. Deleting app. Unsubscribing from mailing list they required me to sign up for. Never buying a lionsgate Blu-ray or uhd new again until they change this messy bullsh.
