You’ll lose everything with this app. – Signal - Private Messenger Review

Title sounds sensational I know, but it’s true. There’s a myriad of issues that lead to loss of data. Per the nature of Signal, none of your chats are stored online. They exist only on your phone and any linked devices. That’s fine and dandy. Signal even has a backup and restore feature, documentation and everything. ONLY FOR ANDROID. THERE IS NO WAY TO BACK UP ON iOS. The most ridiculous thing is that the functionality has been in the app for over two years! It’s stable! Quit keeping it locked behind a debug build! Second, within a year or two of using the app, you will most likely lose authentication with the server, usually around the time new features are added on the servers. This requires a RESET AND LOSS OF DATA. Again on Android, you can reauthenticate without issue! The developers have cared more about matching features of more popular messengers without considering the fact that every single Signal user since the app has launched is a ticking time bomb for their entire chat history to be wiped out. Over the years I’ve put up with it but I’ve pushed most everyone I know to Telegram. I recommend other users do the same. Because in the end, things need to actually work, and not completely crash and burn at random. iOS users are clearly second class citizens to these devs.
