MAC + IPad version pricing – KORG Gadget 2 Review

Gadget is great for quickly developing song ideas, and even writing complete songs, especially, if you later export them to Ableton, and finalize with EQ, compression, etc. The problem I have with Kong and Gadget has to do with pricing, and Korg’s understanding of the customer (I have both the Mac and iPad versions of Gadget, and I also own all the individual Korg instrument plugins on the Mac and IPad). On the Mac, you get all the plugins, and you can use them in any DAW. That is absolutely great - thank you! On the iPad, you don’t get all the plugins, and lots of them are priced as if they’re very special. Korg has a user ID which only knows about my ownership of the Mac version of Gadget, not the individual plugins, and not the iPad versions. The upgrade to Gadget2 on Mac has a special price for me of $100, which gives me nothing new, and I need to spend another $100 on the iPad, to get the plugins that I’m already using on the Mac. Korg can charge whatever they want, but as somebody who likes and owns a lot of Korg products, I find the business and customer side of Korg far behind the technical side. In my opinion, they should know what I own, and make it easy and meaningful for me to upgrade everything, so that I can use any platform, not nickel and dime me in different ways, and ultimately not get another penny from me.
