Buggy and poorly designed – Microsoft Outlook Review

I don’t often write reviews for apps, but I feel especially dissatisfied with Outlook right now. I’ve had a hotmail/outlook email address since I first got an email address 20 years ago. I’ve always been happy with my email account. About a year ago, I decided to switch from my basic iPhone email app to the outlook email app — no particular reason for the switch. Immediately after downloading, my first complaint with the outlook format was that long messages were cut shorter and given a “read more” button. When that button is tapped, a pop out version of the message then has to re-load in full-size format. This causes all images to have to reload, and one of two things then happens: either the pop out message tries to find your last reading place (which fails because the images are re-loading so it continuously jumps around) or it jumps up to the top for you to scroll down again and figure out where you left off. This was a minor irritation at first, but became more frustrating over time. I’m also not a fan of navigating through open messages. It took over six months for me to realize that I could swipe left or right through open emails (this is probably not really a fault of Microsoft, and more of me being slow sometimes - but there was no indication that this was an option). Most recently, I’ve noticed it takes SO LONG for emails to download - if they download at all. Just today I opened an email from Pottery Barn, which usually has a fairly long email format. When I opened the message, it was barely longer than the title of the email and one picture. I tried to scroll down, but there was apparently nothing to scroll to. I knew that couldn’t be right, so I force-closed the app and re-opened it to try again. The same situation happened. I thought maybe it was a problem on Pottery Barn’s end. To test this, I opened the exact same Pottery Barn email in the iPhone mail app. Not only was there basically zero download time for the images, but the whole email was available with no “read more” button. This was honestly the last camel’s back-breaking straw. Why should I be frustrated reading emails from the outlook app when the iPhone mail app opens their own messages so much better and faster? I shouldn’t and I won’t any longer.
