A true classic, but in need of a refresh – FINAL FANTASY (Old Ver.) Review

The original. The first. The best? Well, no. But it wasn’t the final. But we are talking about a knock-it-down-and-grind-it-out RPG here. As a player, you throw any combination of four units at a story that is at its best simplistic: princess gets kidnapped while the world slowly rots in the presence of unfathomable darkness, and you're everyone’s only hope to stop it all. Fight monsters of legendary lore as you quest to restore light. Simple, right? 30 years on, this game is good and cheap fun on long road trips. But it has not aged well since its first iOS outing in 2010. The interface is clunky and a bit outdated, while the app has not received any optimization for the newest widescreen phones. That being said, it needs a fresh coat of paint and more to survive. The blueprint is actually laid out in another title: Adventures of Mana. Still, even with the risks to modern phones and tablets, this title is definitely worth a pick up..
