Initially released in Japan in 1987, the original FINAL FANTASY amazed audiences with its rich story and stunning graphics.

Players guide the Warriors of Light as they set out on a quest to restore the crystals to their former luster. Its side-view battles, choice and promotion of character classes, and sprawling world explored with fantastic vehicles quickly became standards of the series. This game set the stage for all FINAL FANTASY games to come.

This release also contains the bonus dungeons added to later editions of the game--the Soul of Chaos and the Labyrinth of Time.

Reviews

Please modify movement.
Dannoreject

This game is a timeless classic and the movement system the implemented is horrible. I have so much trouble moving to the right it’s almost unplayable. They should add in a movement system like they did for the iOS Dragon Warrior games. A set of arrows that you can configure to be smaller or larger and it has 4 different positions it can be at. Please fix this issue.

Love the game but IOS port needs work
Zeeke0100

Needs optimized for smaller screens text is way too small

Cloud Save
Joshua_Sommer

We need cloud saves and the UI is quite dated. Outside of that it’s a great classic.

Add a No encounters button!
Swaggyp 313

Too many easy enemies after a while. A no encounters button would make the game a lot more enjoyable

It Started Them All!!!
Jclancer4112

This is THE original RPG. I can play through this game over and over and it’s still fun. Now, the IOS control pad is a bit clunky and I wish you could select things in battle a bit quicker, but those are minor flaws. They are completely made up for with the addition of new weapons, armor, spells, items and best of all the 4 new Super/Bonus Dungeons that become available after you restore each Light Crystal....a wonderful surprise added to the game that got me hooked on RPGs when I was 10!!

Controller Support
Jaxhunter

Gets high marks for being a great port but it needs controller support.

Great game would like some options
Jechtus

Overall this is a great play and good game. You get time to go through it and passes time while you are waiting at the Dr or on the train etc. only other options that would be nice like they have in other IOS Final Fantasy games is ‘Auto Battle’ and a game + mode where you can replay with the stats and equipment you ended your last game with.

Good Port
Airbornemaikai

For what it is, this is a pretty good port for iOS. It’s simplified enough that it’s not cumbersome to play but not drastic enough that it takes away from the original while maintaining playability on a portable device. I don’t follow Final Fantasy enough to know all of the changes but they have used some of the newer terminology in this port, for instance gold is labeled as gill in this. Also there is only 1 silver sword that drops by chance from Astos, no more buying them in Elfheim, these are pretty important changes to note for new players looking for the original. Other than the game becoming entirely too easy because the scale of the enemies and amount of so awarded is completely broken so you almost never die, it’s still fun to play casually when you want to reminisce of the original

Dumbed Down but Still Good!
bendbars_liftgates

To get it out of the way: this is a port of the PSP version of FF1, which uses the “easy mode” of the game as featured in FF Origins for the PS1 and Dawn of Souls for the GBA. So that means MP instead of spell slots, lower prices all around, and the inclusion of Phoenix Downs, which allow you to revive a downed character without returning to town. All that aside though, it’s still got its challenging moments and is great fun! The graphics are quite impressive, though the hIgh resolution and 10” display on my iPad 6 show some of the imperfections. The music is amazing, maintaining the classic melodies but working in some modern touches to make the tracks pop. All in all, a great way to experience or relive a classic that still holds up today, especially if you’re looking for something a bit less brutal and unforgiving than the original.

Unable to Name my Characters
M3Shack74

I can’t get passed the naming characters part in order to start the game. It won’t give me a text box to name them. So I just paid $8 and I can’t even play the game. I will update my review if this problem gets fixed.
