Avis horrible – Avis - Car Rental Review

I’m now on my third car because the first two were undrivable. One had a flat tire in the rental lot and obviously had not been checked for days, was filthy and covered with paint and scratched from somebody trying to get paint off with a razor blade. The second one had a malfunction light that the owners manual said meant I should not be driving the car. Avis refused to deal with it. They told me it was my job to go to an Avis center and replace it even though the car was not drivable. Customer service could not help me - they kept referring me to roadside assistance. Roadside assistance said they would help me only if I paid them several hundred dollars to bring out a replacement car. I could not access information online or in the Avis app because the Avis system would not let me go past a page that asked me to confirm that I had picked up the original car that had the flat tire, paint, stain seats, and scratched windows. I drove to a local Avis location the next morning, missing my daughters hospital procedure. The third car was a Cadillac that I hate, that gets less than 20 miles per gallon.. It has not been cleaned, and it smells of rotten food. They gave me a new contract for the Cadillac that was higher than the contract that I had agreed to when I reserved the car to begin with. They also wanted to charge me for both unlimited mileage and $16 a day for mileage. They also wanted me to commit to bringing in the car with a full gas tank, when I had contracted to come back with an empty gas tank. I refuse to sign those portions. I then had to extend the contract because my daughter remained hospitalized. The agent could quote me only a total price for the extension without any ability to tell me what components went into that price and whether I was being charged a higher rate than I had agreed to. He swore that Avis did not make available to Avis representatives the details of the total price. The rep also told me that Abe is representatives do not have access to the new contract entered into by the local facility for the Cadillac. I was also told that Avis has no online inventory and cannot tell me which local Avis locations might have a smaller car in stock and available to rent. This review is long enough so I’ll stop, but there were at least a dozen other problems with this rental. The biggest problem is that no one you call and know when you contact online has information or it has any ability to help. Customer service refers me to reservations. Reservations refers me to roadside assistance. Roadside assistance refers me to reservations. Reservations refers me to the local. The local claims to not have any knowledge of the Avis system. Etc. etc. etc.
