SammyDuck – Office Go - for Microsoft Office 365 & Quickoffice Review

UPDATED REVIEW, JUNE 16, 2019: I should have said the menus contain “a mixture of English and Korean characters” in my original review—just like Hancom Office Mobile. Dropbox link for syncing is apparently not working, and iCloud seems not to be available here in this Microsoft Word knockoff. Spell checking and autocorrect do not work, as well. I REALLY CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS APP FOR MOST PEOPLE. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought this app only to discover that its UX and features are quite different from what is shown in the ad screenshots above. For example, there is no template facility and no provided templates, either in *.dotx format or the proprietary format *.hwp, which I believe refers to Hancom Office, in this case made over for ios. Talk about misleading advertising! I do, however, marvel at the raw power and features of this one. It handles images well in some ways, but the text flow around them could be much improved. There is access to a standard set of fonts; paragraph styling, especially indents, works well; and one can save to hwp, docx, pdf, or txt. No markdown interpreter here, of course. The outline facility is interesting but the menu for outline levels shows a mixture of English and Chinese characters that must confuse users. I couldn’t find a way to number with standard Roman numerals. But one can use double or triple tapping to easily select words or entire paragraphs for cutting, copying, and pasting. I’ve decided to keep the app, and not complain to the App Store, because it fills a need for my workflow, and I would guess that’s why it sometimes appears in the list of top paid productivity apps. But I really wish one could set one’s own default page styling. Constantly setting paragraph styling, especially font and size, will drive you crazy, and the default font, HCR Dotum, is less than appealing. And what about the templates? Can one download and use dotx files from elsewhere? What bothers me most is the deceptive advertising. I’ve noticed that several of these Microsoft Word knockoffs use the same screenshots for supposedly different apps. WHY DOES THE APP STORE ALLOW THIS?
