This iPhone app is great!! – Emby Review

I mainly use the iPhone app to manage my server remotely. For instance, if I’m not at home and I want to add subtitles to a movie, or reset one of my user’s passwords I’ll use the iPhone app. The dashboard controls are implemented quite well for a mobile platform. A lot of time it’s easier for me to get out my phone to do some server management rather than sit down at my actual server or fire up my MacBook and use the web UI. So I was pleasantly surprised to find out there was an Emby iOS app. When I saw that it had all the same features available as the standard web UI, in a slick mobile package, I immediately purchased the app and have not regretted it. As far as streaming, I use Emby for tv shows and movies. I don’t really watch a lot of that type of content on my iPhone in general so I don’t use the mobile app very often for streaming. That being said, the occasional times I do use the mobile app for streaming, it has worked great. A typical situation where I’ll use the app to stream is during my commute to class or work. If I want to finish an episode of whatever show I’m watching, or the end of a movie, I’ll use the iPhone app. It has always been dependable in those instances. As far as the Emby service in general (not just the iOS app), I couldn’t be more pleased. When I first built my server I tried Plex and I was very unhappy with it. So within two days of building my media server I switched from Plex to Emby. To me it’s just not a comparison. The ability to make multiple accounts for free, the ability to connect directly, and all the tiny tweaks and customizations available. And for my less technical server users, I can just have them make an Emby Connect account and I’ll link it to my server. Emby might be a little bit more difficult to setup for a less technically inclined person but the trade-off is worth it. The trad-off means more freedom. For anybody who is thinking of using Emby and concerned about the technical aspects, just give it a try. There are plenty of guides, wiki articles, videos, and the community is pretty helpful. The devs themselves tend to reply to a lot of forum posts as well. They are pretty active. Plus it really isn’t much more difficult than other services. For the devs, keep up the great work! I’m so glad I found Emby and I always recommend it to everybody I know who is either running or thinking of setting up a media server (which is a lot of people in the circles I run in). For anybody reading this review, BUY THIS APP!! At the very least it supports the devs and they deserve it for providing such a great service on multiple platforms. I recently switched from Windows Server 2016 to Ubuntu 18.04 and it works just as well on both platforms. These devs are worth the few dollars they ask for this app for all the great work they do.
