Physique Athlete Turned Runner – 10K Trainer by C25K® Review

30 years old, male, generally fit in terms of muscle mass since I have lifted since I was 14 years old and was a multi-sport athlete growing up but was, however, never a distance runner. Prior to using this app, I hadn’t run much over 1 mile consecutively. Since using the app, I’ve been able to run about 4 miles consecutively and am currently on week 10 of the training program. With the frequency and volume of running, I’ve had to significantly change my lifting/weight training for my legs and reduce overall weight training volume for recovery purposes which is to be expected. Although I have found this program challenging, I have found with a willful attitude to push beyond perceived limits, it can be done. It wasn’t until the 2nd workout in week 9 that I felt unable to complete a run. I am in week 10 now and have decided to reduce runs down to 2 per week instead of 3. I think for someone who isn’t accustomed to running and who is also trying to maintain some sort of strength and hypertrophy routine in the gym that it’s just too much running in weeks 9+ to weight train 4 days per week and run 3 days. I am sure the lifting could be further adjusted, but I love weight training and don’t want to sacrifice it further. I have worked diligently to not lose muscular progress as I have competed a couple of times in amateur bodybuilding and physique competitions. I will say that like any other physical feat, you must get proper rest, hydration, and nutrition. If you are going to follow this program, take it seriously, and you will succeed. The app itself is pretty clean, even the ads, so I have found it helpful, and it has simplified my journey of running and made welcoming the challenge a bit easier. Hope this review helps!
