Was 5 stars until the ending – Candleman:find yourself Review

I adored this game until the final stage of level 9, when the game takes a sudden left turn and becomes something completely different, something that totally undercuts everything it was up until that point. A nice, contemplative, quiet and sadly whimsical game devolves into something stupid and absurd and hollow. It was so disappointing that I didn’t even bother to try to go back and get all the candles. I only played through to make sure my review wasn’t unfair and everything did in fact end as stupidly as that level began. I didn’t realize until the finishing cutscene that it could actually end worse than I’d anticipated. Maybe there are more levels coming. But if 1-9 are it, then this was a blown opportunity. But levels 1-8 and all but the end of 9 are delightful to play and worth the money.
